Traffic stop yields marijuana, ecstasy
Two men were arrested during a traffic stop Tuesday night on Interstate 30 that resulted in police confiscating marijuana and ecstasy.
Dewayne Franklin, 21, of Wheatfield, Conn., and Jermany Tiswell, 25, of Marianna, Ark., were arrested and charged with two counts of felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
At 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Officer Dakota Easley of the Texarkana, Ark., Police Department pulled over a blue Hyundai Accent that allegedly was following too close to an 18-wheeler at the 5-mile marker on the eastbound side of the interstate, according to the police report.
Easley reported that as he approached the vehicle, he detected a strong odor of burning marijuana coming from inside.
Easley requested backup due to the occupants’ behaving suspiciously, according to the report. One of the occupants told officers that the other occupant had marijuana in the vehicle. During a search of the car, officers reportedly found narcotics and THC oil in sealed bags contained in a suitcase.
Ten pounds of marijuana, 4 pounds of THC oil and ecstasy reportedly were recovered.
