Charles Wayne Combs, Sr., 82, of Texarkana, AR, died Monday, March 18, 2019, in a local hospital. He was born January 23, 1937, in Fouke, AR, to James Monroe and Nettie Jewell Cooper Combs. He was a former director for the Boys Club of America in Texarkana before moving to Galveston, TX to be the founder of the Galveston Chapter. While there, he taught and coached in the Galveston School District. He retired as an executive director for the Boys and Girls Club of America, and became a coach and teacher for the La Marque, TX School District before retiring to Texarkana in 2000.

He enjoyed his service to the youth that he encountere­d, showing them a different lifestyle than they had, and literally mentored thousands of young men over the years.

He was fanatical about crappie fishing and hunting, many times taking youth on a number of excursions.

He was a Baptist and a member of the Sons of the Confederac­y. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn Combs.

He loved his family and is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Charles Wayne Jr. (Chuck) and Karrie Combs of LaPorte, TX; one grandson, Christophe­r Wayne and wife, Tami Combs of Cypress, TX; one granddaugh­ter, Crystal Nicole and husband, Joey Babin of Milton, FL; three great-grandchild­ren, Ayden Combs, Addison Combs, and Adley Babin; brotherin-law and sister-in-law, Bobby and Cynthia Wilson of Texarkana; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 23, 2019, at Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Robinson and Frank McFerrin officiatin­g. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 P.M. Friday, March 22, 2019, at Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas.
