Area man faces string of charges
Fite accused of stealing truck from current job to take from former employer
An area man accused of stealing a truck from his current employer to burglarize a former employer was arrested early Friday, according to Bowie County Sheriff’s Office.
Jamie Dale Fite of New Boston allegedly was caught stealing equipment Friday from CDM Holdings while driving a truck authorties say was stolen from Robbins Toyota.
Fite, 44, was booked into the Bi-State jail on a charge of theft over $2,500 and under $30,000, theft of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, evading arrest with a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance over 1 gram and under 4 grams, Chief Deputy
Jeff Neal said.
Capt. Robby McCarver later arrested Fite on a charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle for the truck he allegedly stole from Robbins Toyota.
Fite’s bond had not been set at presstime.
At 2:30 a.m. Friday, a CDM Holdings’ employee reported a theft in progress at the business on state Highway 98 in New Boston. The employee said he saw a black Chevrolet truck with no license plate enter the property. The driver got out of the truck and started to take tools and rifle out of three CDM Holdings’ vehicles, the employee said.
Once deputies arrived at the business, they positioned themselves to catch the suspect,
who then accelerated the truck through a fence into an adjacent pasture and fled.
Officer Cole Ogden of Hooks
Police Department located the suspect on South Elm Street in New Boston. The suspect again accelerated his vehicle, initiating a pursuit before he crashed into a ditch on state Highway 8, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect tried to flee on foot but was quickly arrested by Ogden.
About $10,000 worth of stolen property belonging to CDM Holdings was recovered from the vehicle Fite was driving, along with methamphetamine, authorities said.
Deputy Michelle Carrier arrived and took over the investigation. Fite reportedly told her that he worked for Robbins Toyota and had been using vehicles from the lot without the company’s permission to steal property from CDM Holdings, his former employer, for some time.
Fite also reportedly admitted to stealing five trailers. Four of the trailers belonged to CDM Holdings and the other one he spotted at a location on his way to CDM Holdings, authorities said.
Deputies said Fite led them to the stolen trailers, which were returned to their owners.
