Police seek suspect in Saturday shooting
Two people shot at local Waffle House after Arkansas-side altercation; one in critical condition
TEXARKANA, Texas — One man is in critical condition and another is in stable condition after an overnight shooting at Waffle House on North State Line Avenue.
The shooting occurred at 3:12 a.m. Saturday, according to Shawn Vaughn, Texarkana, Texas, Police Department spokesman.
An investigation is under way. Two men were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Detectives later obtained warrants for Calvin Gardner, 30, who faces two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Officers were dispatched to the 5300 block of State Line Avenue on the report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found two men with gunshot wounds. One had been shot in the chest and the
other in the back and arm. The officers provided emergency aid until EMS arrived. Both men were taken to area hospitals. One man is listed in critical condition and the other is in stable condition.
Detectives determined the shooting was a continuation of an altercation that began in Texarkana, Arkansas. A brief fight occurred in the Waffle House parking lot after some of those involved in the earlier altercation pulled into the parking lot, which ultimately led to Gardner allegedly pulling out a gun and firing several shots at the two men, officials said. Gardner was last seen headed south on State Line Avenue in a white Lincoln Navigator.
Anyone with information on Gardner’s whereabouts is asked to call TTPD at 903798-3116 or Texarkana Area Crime Stoppers at 903-793STOP.
