Cajun restaurant expands to second location

- By Junius Stone

Texarkanians were introduced to MeOmyO earlier this year, a Cajun restaurant on State Line named for an alligator that lives on the property of the Aslin family.

MeOmyO is not just “Cajun”, however, as the Aslins made it clear. Cajun food is very specific in its use of its ingredients to the various locations in Louisiana.

And now, because of the rapid success of MeOmyO, the Ville Platte style will be taken to a second location — the former location of Sum Burger at Jefferson Avenue Marketplace on the Arkansas-side of Texarkana.

“Things have been going great in this location, to the point where we think there’s enough business to support a second location. Plus, we want to have a second location deeper into the Arkansas side,” said Trevor Aslin, co-owner of MeOmyO.

The second location will be at the address of 4059 Jefferson Ave.

“It will have more space, a bigger kitchen, seating area, parking lot, more of what we need to serve more customers,” he said.

Those who love the State Line location do not need to worry, however, as it will stay open.

“Our biggest business here is the lunchtime crowd, most especially those who come from downtown. We are part of the downtown dining scene, so we are keeping hold of that,” he said. “In the evenings and on weekends, our kitchen and dining room will be for hire, for catering and special events.”

Aslin credits fresh ingredients and their specific brand of Cajun cooking for their success.

“We have a method of slow cooking our food, yet the customer still gets it quickly,” said Aslin. “Texarkana fans seem to most especially like our catfish and shrimp baskets, catfish acadiana, featuring farm-raised catfish,” he said. “They also favor our sides like our greens, corn moquechoux and desserts like our bread pudding, these are all recipes from the Louisiana Bayou.”

Besides getting ready for events in the holiday season, MeOmyO may have another cooking visit coming from Mama Cyn, the Aslin brothers’ mother-in-law, who taught them all they know.

“She’s taking care of affairs at home, but we anticipate another visit from her pretty soon,” Aslin said.
