DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS: Hicks made an interception and Landon Jackson had 12 tackles and a sack. Jamie Lewis also had 12 stops, while Martin and Dylan Hopkins made eight tackles each. Torey Phillips had seven stops, and Cameron Weekly and Andrew Legrand had six tackles apiece.

COACH JOSH GIBSON’S COMMENTS: “I was pleased with the team in all three phases of the game. I thought we controlled the ball and played physical on offense. We got a lot of points early. I think we scored on our first six possessions. Defensively, we started super strong, and we never broke. It was tough handling the offense that Salado runs. To hold them to seven points up until the very end was really good.

“K.J. Hicks is a big hitter. We aren’t deep at safety so we use him a lot there. When he is in at running back, he is special. K.J. is strong, a trackster and can fly.
