Early primary voting begins today for area

Early voting in Democratic and Republican party primary elections begins today in Arkansas and Texas.

Miller County, Arkansas All Miller County, Arkansas, early primary voting will take place in the County Courthouse, 400 Laurel St., beginning today and ending March 2.

Polls will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday except March 2, when the hours will be 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Saturdays, polls will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Early voting will not be available on Sundays.

In Arkansas, both parties will choose candidates for president and will vote in three nonpartisa­n judicial elections.

Locally, Republican­s will choose candidates for District 4, District 7, District 8 and District 9 justice of the peace as well as District 4 constable.

Bowie County, Texas Early voting in Bowie County, Texas, will be available in two places: the County Courthouse, 710 James Bowie Drive in New Boston, and the Southwest Center, 3222 W. Seventh St. in Texarkana.

The Bi-State Justice Building in Texarkana will not be a polling place at any time this year.

Today through Feb. 28, early primary polls will be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Early voting will not be available on weekends.

Texas Democrats and Republican­s will choose candidates for president and U.S. senator, as well as Texas railroad commission­er and various state judge and Supreme Court justice races. Both parties will also vote on platform propositio­ns.

Contested local primary races include Republican­s’ choices to run for 5th Judicial District judge, as well as Bowie County sheriff, tax assessor-collector, Precinct 3 commission­er and Precinct 2 constable.
