VERA VIVIAN RICHIE ADDINGTON

Vera Vivian Richie Addington was born in Boswell, OK June 7, 1934 and raised in Blossom, Texas. She entered God’s glory on March 9th where she joined her husband who preceded her in death on May 12, 2008.

Vera graduated from Blossom High School in 1952 and met Richard (Dick) Addington, her future husband, while in school. In High School she excelled in basketball and academics.

After graduating, she married the love of her life Richard (Dick) G. Addington on June 13th, 1952, a Friday, and a day they both considered the luckiest of their lives.

She left the United States on December 17, 1952, traveling from New York City, by herself, on the Queen Elizabeth II. She traveled to France to be with her husband. Regardless of the duty station or assignment, her place was always by his side.

Vera traveled the world with him as he served in in the Air Force. Her oldest son Richard (Rick) Addington Jr. was born in Fontainebl­eau, France and the youngest Michael (Mike) Addington was born in Anchorage, Alaska.

After they retired from the Air Force, they settled in Hooks, Texas to raise their boys - building a life of love, laughter and hospitalit­y.

Vera worked at the Red River Army Depot’s AAFES Post Exchange (PX) for 21 years as the assistant manager.

After she and Dick retired from Red River, they traveled the world again (Venezuela, Canada & Europe, to name a few countries), this time traveling with & visiting their grandchild­ren: Erik & Allie (Rick’s) and Joshua (Mike’s).

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Richard G. Addington Sr., her parents, Charley and Linnie Richie, five brothers, Bill, Estes, Roy, Eugene and Claude Richie, and two sisters, Francis Roe and Margaret Inscho.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Addington Jr, and his girlfriend Maria Oden of Brownsboro TX, Michael Addington and his wife Esther Zepeda of Texarkana AR, one sister, Dorothy Corley and her husband Wallace of Lindale TX; her sister-in-law Eleanor Richie of Blanchard LA; three grandchild­ren, Erik Addington and Allie Addington Murphy along with their mother Laura Addington, all of Shreveport LA, and Joshua Addington and his wife Jennifer of Lantana TX, along with his mother Teresa Addington, of Genoa AR. One great granddaugh­ter, Gabriella Murphy (Allie’s) of Shreveport.

She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmothe­r and great-grandmothe­r. She will always be remembered by everyone she loved and the light she shined will always illuminate the journeys of those she touched.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Saturday, March 21, 2020, at Chapelwood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 9:00-10:00 AM Saturday prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Chapelwood Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Dementia or Alzheimer’s Charity group of your choice.
