Cases rise in 5 Northeast Texas counties

Confirmed coronaviru­s case counts rose in five Northeast Texas counties from Tuesday to Wednesday, increasing the region’s total by 22.

Bowie County, Texas’ count rose by one, from 115 to 116, not counting cases in the Barry Telford Unit of the state prison system in New Boston, according to the local emergency Joint

Operations Center.

Seventy-eight Bowie County patients have recovered and no longer require treatment, and 11 deaths in the county are attributed to COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus.

Cass County’s count rose by two, from 24 to 26, according to the JOC. Twenty of those patients have recovered.

Elsewhere in Northeast Texas,

Morris County’s tally increased from 13 to 14, Titus County’s from 129 to 142 and Red River County’s from 36 to 40, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

In Southwest Arkansas, Sevier County added three cases to reach 49, and Hempstead County added a case to reach 10, according to the Arkansas Department of Health.

Howard County held at 14 cases, Lafayette County at nine, Pike County at three, Nevada County at four and Little River County at one.

Caddo Parish in Northwest Louisiana added 28 cases for a total of 1,939 so far. Bossier Parish’s count increased by five, from 348 to 353.

Statewide, Texas reported 51,323 total cases so far, with 1,419 deaths. Louisiana reported 35,316 cases with 2,485 deaths, and Arkansas reported 5,003 cases with 107 deaths.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 1,528,235 cases in the U.S. so far, with a national death toll of 91,664.
