Local United Way donates more than $38K in relief
The United Way of Texarkana has given out $38,475 in COVID-19 relief to area partners facing critical needs in hunger relief and sheltering issues.
Additionally, 2,500 face masks were purchased and distributed to partnering agencies along with LifeNet and CHRISTUS St. Michael Rehab facilities, according to a news release from The United Way of Texarkana.
“We are pleased with what we have been able to do, but concerned about the future,” said Mark Bledsoe, United Way of Greater Texarkana President and CEO.
The United Way is concerned about pledges decreasing from companies that have furloughed employees.
“These programs are going on despite everything. We ultimately don’t want to diminish services that are needed even more,” Bledsoe said.
Texarkana Resources was provided $6,000 for PPE, digital infrared thermometers and assistance for hunger relief.
Harvest Texarkana received $6,000 and the Salvation Army Food Pantry received $5,000.
Mission Texarkana and Randy Sams Outreach Shelter each received $3,000 for PPE and hunger relief.
Senior Citizens Services and Miller County Senior Center received $3,000 each for their programs.
Opportunities Inc. was also granted $3,000 to assist in hunger relief of clients with special needs.
Habitat for Humanity was also granted $2,500 to help finish a build that has been delayed due to shelter in place restrictions.
“These unprecedented challenges have amplified the need for community support. While we understand and are sensitive to the financial burden many are currently faced with, we also see an increase of those in need.
Your donation helps provide local solutions, and any gift is greatly appreciated as always,” said Keith Craig, UWGT campaign champion and south district director for Arkansas and Oklahoma region.
“Everyone has done a wonderful job of taking care of those in need during these trying times,” Bledsoe said.
