Food bank will distribute Wednesday in New Boston
NEW BOSTON, Texas— Harvest Regional Food Bank will be distributing 500 emergency food boxes to New Boston area residents on Wednesday, May 27.
The distribution will begin at 9 a.m. at T&P Trail Head Park Pavilion, 200 S Ellis St, New Boston. Distribution will last until noon or until all boxes have been distributed.
Recipients are directed to enter the Festival Grounds Entrance from the S.E Front Street. Distribution is limited to one box per household and two households per vehicle.
“With the recent rise in hunger, it’s more important than ever that Harvest meets the needs of our food-insecure families where they are,” says Camille Coker Wrinkle, CEO/Executive Director. “Our goal is to continue making sure families have the food they need, even during this challenging time.”
With CDC precautions and recommendations against the Coronavirus still in place, Harvest is taking every measure to ensure the safety of its staff, volunteers, and recipients.
Mobile pantries are now operating as “drive-thru” distributions, with food boxes being loaded directly into vehicles. Recipients will not be allowed to exit the vehicle or park to pick up food.
Last year, Harvest distributed 3.2 million meals and served over 60,000 individuals in Southwest Arkansas and Northeast Texas.
Both states consistently rank in the top 10 for the highest incidents of hunger.
Nearly 205 of local residents miss meals due to food insecurity, including 1 in 4 children. Harvest works to eliminate hunger through its Food Banking, Food Rescue, School Backpack, and Mobile Pantry programs.
