Liberty-Eylau football ready for fresh start

TEXARKANA, Texas — The Liberty-Eylau Leopards football program is looking to turn the corner under second-year head coach Klint King.

One way the Leopards intend to improve their chances this fall is through their strength and conditioning program.

L-E has had to endure the same Dead Period, along with every other school within the state of Texas.

“We’re going to get summer workouts kicked off on June 8,”

King said. “We’re ready to get back and get all the kids back. It’s going to be great to have all the kids back in the facilities. We’re also excited we get the opportunity to see all of them everyday, as much as we can. It’s going to be great not having to talk to on the phone or over a computer screen. It’ll be good to get back rolling and getting things ready for the fall.”

King credits senior leadership among his players as to who’s been leading the team during this unique offseason.

“We have a group of senior guys and some younger guys that have really taken it upon themselves to stay active during all this,” King said. “They’ve taken on a leadership roles by getting guys together and making sure they stay motivated towards the upcoming season.

“It’s really been great to have some of our past athletes and former alumni take some of these young men under their wings. They’ve been able to pour into them what it takes to work at the next level and also to be great at the high school level. That’s been really great to see. Tra Carson has been a great asset to us during this time. He’s been a leader in showing

those kids what it takes to be successful. Seeing him and meeting him, I’m so glad that we have him. I didn’t know him before but I have all the respect in the world for the man that he is. I sincerely appreciate him taking the time to give back.”

Although L-E has yet to undergo a full offseason under King, the head Leopard insists his squad will be ready to play when their number is called.

“We’re going to make the most of out the extra time the UIL has allowed us to have this summer,” King said. “Working out five days a week and utilizing that one hour of sport-specific practice a day, so we plan to take advantage of that time this summer as well. This summer, we have all of our coaches in town and no one is in the process of moving. Last year, we had to come late and there was a lot going on. This summer, we plan to pickup where we left off, so we’re hoping for a seamless transition from summer workouts to fall camp.”
