Bowie County officials discuss jail, air conditioning, roads

- — From Staff Reports

NEW BOSTON, Texas — Bids and contracts involving jail supplies, air conditioning improvements and road chip seal will be some of the topics discussed at the Bowie County Commissioners Court meeting at 9 a.m. today.

Commissioners, who will meet in their second floor courthouse meeting room, will consider opening, studying and possibly accepting a company bid to operate and supply the Bowie County Correctional Center’s commissary for the inmates. They will also consider opening and possibly accepting a company bid to install a new air conditioning chiller in the courthouse.

The court will further look at approving a management agreement with Kingwood Forestry Services Inc. to manage a tract of wooded area between Hooks and New Boston, which is partially divided by Interstate 30. The agreement would also allow the company to advertise and sell timber from the land. At present, Bowie County along with Hooks and New Boston, jointly own the land.

In other business, commissioners will consider approving an agreement between Texarkana, Texas, and Bowie County that would allow the city to reimburse the county for providing chip seal services to preserve pavement on a section of Chapparal Lane. The city plans to reimburse the county $5,225 for the county’s road work.

Court members will also consider accepting $85,873 from the Texas Department of Transportation to allow the county to participate in the state’s Transportation Infrastructure Fund Grant Program.
