Marvin Brewster vacated his earthly body on Thursday, July 30, 2020. Marvin was a lifelong resident of Texarkana where he shared his gift of music for many years. Throughout his life, Marvin served his community with integrity and excellence.

Marvin was an active member of Lonoke Baptist Church where he served tirelessly in various positions including 53 years as a musician and Minister of Music. Marvin also enjoyed singing in the Texarkana Regional Chorale where he served for over 30 years. He was an active member of the Texarkana Community Concert Associatio­n. In addition, he was the choral music director at Texas High School for 20 years before becoming a full-time school counselor. After retiring from Texarkana ISD, Marvin taught music theory classes at Texarkana College.

Marvin pledged the Gamma Sigma chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and was an active member for almost 67 years. He was also a charter member of the Texarkana Alumni Chapter that was chartered in 1972. His fraternity named a scholarshi­p in his name, the Marvin E. Brewster Scholarshi­p by Kappa Alpha Psi. He was a 2006 recipient of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Distinguis­hed Gentleman Award. In 2018, Marvin was inducted into the Texarkana Independen­t School District Hall of Fame for his service as a choir director and counselor in the district.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ollie Brewster and 4 brothers: Artis Brewster, Charles Brewster, Willie Brewster, and Clinton Brewster. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Frances Brewster; his children, Portia Brewster Smith (Allanda) and Margo Brewster James (David, Jr.); his grandchild­ren, Jessica Franklin (Coty), Troi Ott (Kaleb Ott), David James, III (Kelliny), and Cara James; great grandchild­ren, Sydney Franklin, Noah Franklin, David James, IV, Hatley James, and Emori Ott; one brother, Rev. Mayfield Brewster and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 5-7 pm on Friday, 7/31/20 at Haynes Mortuary. Due to COVID 19, a private family service will follow.
