Another COVID-19 death reported in Bowie County

Bowie County, Texas, on Friday reported a death because of COVID-19, bringing the county’s total to 38.

The death was the third in Bowie County in the past week. Because COVID-19 deaths are recorded where patients die, not where they lived, it is likely that some Bowie County deaths are among patients who resided elsewhere.

The local emergency Joint Operations Center reported the death along with an increase of 10 in Bowie County’s case count, from 609 to 619, Thursday to Friday. Two-hundred eighty-one Bowie County patients have recovered, and there are 300 active cases being traced.

Cass County, Texas’ case count rose from 142 to 149, with 68 recoveries, five deaths and 76 active cases, according to the JOC.

Elsewhere in Northeast Texas, Morris County’s count went up from 85 to 91, Red River County’s from 133 to 134 and Titus County’s from 1,141 to 1,156, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

In Southwest Arkansas, Miller County reported an increase from 442 cases to 451, with 378 recoveries, four deaths and 68 active cases, according to the Arkansas Department of Health.

Pike County’s from 69 to 77, Nevada County’s from 128 to 129, Little River County’s from 145 to 149, Hempstead County’s from 192 to 200, Howard County’s from 287 to 291 and Sevier County’s from 927 to 929. Lafayette County held at 48 cases.

Caddo Parish in Northwest Louisiana added 137 cases for a total of 6,144, and Bossier Parish added 37 cases to reach 2,054, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

Statewide, Arkansas reported 42,511 cases with 453 deaths. Louisiana reported 116,280 cases with 3,835 deaths, and Texas reported 420,946 cases with 6,569 deaths.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 4,473,974 total cases so far in the U.S., with a national death toll of 151,499.
