‘Being Reuben’ is back with more makeup tips

- By Rachel Jones

The glam kid: If you’ve been missing your weekly dose of stunning makeup and musical talent, you’ll be glad to hear that “Being Reuben” is back for a whole new season, and it premieres Friday, Aug. 7, on CW.

The docuseries is a fun yet in-depth look into Reuben de Maid’s (“Little Big Shots”) glamorous life in Wales, U.K., where he lives with his family. The show is also a testament to how a family’s love can make a huge difference in terms of helping an extraordinary teen conquer the world with their exceptional talent.

Needless to say, Reuben is the furthest thing from a typical teenager. His life changed dramatically two years ago when he delivered an amazing singing performance on the talentsearch show “Little Big Shots,” an NBC series that was co-created and produced by Ellen DeGeneres (“The Ellen DeGeneres Show”) and Steve Harvey (“Family Feud”). The rest, as they say, is history.

“Being Reuben” follows Reuben’s life with his mother, younger sister and brother, as well as Michael, the Bampa (grandfather). The show features the brilliant Welsh boy going about his dayto-day life, which includes flying to New York and L.A. and working with top makeup brands.

Reuben started his makeup influencer career at the age of 12 when he began gaining serious attention for his flair for male makeup. His daily tasks usually include filming makeup tutorials and sharing makeup tips on his social media channels, where he has at least half a million followers.

He once joked about his Instagram comments section being a big WhatsApp group, and has met some of his longtime fans in America. Of course, his hometown friends are just as amazed by his skills.

While his career is currently centered around makeup art, Reuben’s longterm goal is to become a TV presenter, specifically on the British daytime television program “This Morning.”

See what’s up with Reuben this Friday,Aug. 7, when the new season of “Being Reuben” premieres on CW.

Flipping alone: “Christina on the Coast” is your go-to TV show for home renovation projects in Southern California, and you can catch the premiere of the show’s latest season on Thursday, Aug. 6, on HGTV.

Christina, born Christina Meursinge Haack Anstead, is an American real estate investor whose rise to TV stardom was due at least partially to the HGTV show “Flip or Flop,” which she co-hosted alongside her now ex-husband Tarek El Moussa. The Moussas, as they were referred to then, were married in 2009 and have two children together.

In 2013,Tarek was diagnosed with testicular and thyroid cancer, prompting the couple to bank Tarek’s sperm and attempt at in vitro fertilization to have their second child. They failed on the first try but eventually succeeded in 2015.Watching the couple weather such ups and downs was what gave their series its spark.

Unfortunately, after the arrival of their second baby, tension rose between Christina and Tarek, and she felt like they weren’t able to connect anymore. Eventually, things were bad enough that they couldn’t even work together. In May 2016, the two separated after an alleged incident involving Tarek and a firearm. He has since vehemently denied that he had any intent to harm himself, but rumors persisted.

Whatever really happened was the last straw for Christina, and after their 2017 divorce, she began dating English TV presenter Ant Anstead, whom she married a year later. “Christina On the Coast” tracks her personal experiences after the split, following her while she flips properties on her own.

“Christina on the Coast” will give you all the home renovation inspiration you need when the new season premieres Thursday, Aug. 6, on HGTV.

Comedy challenges: Looking for a perfect quarantine companion? “Taskmaster” might be just the thing. The British comedy panel game show, originally created by comedian Alex Horne (“Stormester”) for the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, first landed on television in 2015 and is now back for a new season premiering Sunday,Aug. 2, on CW.

The premise is simple: five comedians take on a variety of mundane challenges, from eating the most melon in 60 seconds to moving a pretend boulder a certain distance in 60 minutes, and they have to do it all like their lives depend on it! In the end, they converge in a theater, where they meet host Greg Davies (“The Inbetweeners,” 2011), who berates them for their awful performances. The participants are given points, banter flies and laughter fills the rest of the show.

While Davies, as the Taskmaster, has his own charm and talent, his assistant and show creator, Alex Horne, is actually the heart of the series. During the first few episodes, Horne and his producers clearly understood one thing: people enjoy watching others obsess about simple, odd problems. This comedy is indeed unique, and the comedy gold comes from the panic each task causes for the comedians.

“Taskmaster” is directed by Andy Devonshire, whose credits include the BBC’s “The Great British Bake Off.” You can tune in to the premiere on Sunday, Aug. 2, on CW.
