Hawks lose to Spring Hill, 12-7

LONGVIEW, Texas — Pleasant Grove suffered a 12-7 loss to Spring Hill in varsity tennis action this past week.

If you include all the varsity matches, the Hawks battled the host Panthers to a 12-12 draw.

“This was a day were we won overall, but just fell short where it mattered most,” said Pleasant Grove coach Eric Pickett. “Our team depth really shined and we just have to keep building knowing we are right there against these top regional teams.”

The Hawk junior varsity rolled to an 18-3 victory over Spring Hill, giving PG a combined advantage of 30-15.

Pleasant Grove’s varsity returns to action Thursday, taking on Texas High at the John Watson tennis complex. Action starts at 3:30 p.m.

Here are the results of the Hawks’ match against Spring Hill:

Spring Hill won all six matches in boys singles . PG players were

Grant Mitchell, Spencer Potts, Stone Robertson, Ryan Franklin, Rhett Gatlin and William Saldino.

Pleasant Grove won 5 of 6 matches in girls singles. Hawk winners were Rose Anderson, Anna Guan, Ramsey Noble, Elaina Shellogg and Courtney Kirk. Lilly Pace took the lone loss at No. 1 singles.

In boys doubles, the hosts again won all three matches. PG teams on the losing end were Potts-Mitchell, Humphrey-Robertson and FranklinSa­ldino.

PG girls won 2 of 3 in doubles. NobleAnder­son and Shellogg-Crouch won their matches, Guan-Pace took a loss.

The mixed doubles team of KirkGatlin lost and Coker-Johnson won.

In the junior varsity division, PG’s singles winners were: Whit Miller, Dylon Yost, Landon Prejean, Jackson Cannon; Chloe Sanders, Jayden Franklin, Hadley Davis and Hailey Epps. In doubles, PG winners included: Miller-Cannon, YostPrejea­n, Davis-Carroll and SandersFra­nklin.
