Lakeside sweeps Arkansas High

- By Earl Gill

TEXARKANA, Ark. — Hot Springs Lakeside left no doubt in their match with Arkansas High.

The Lady Backs fell to the Lady Rams in their varsity volleyball Conference 5A match, 25-5, 25-10, 25-14.

“I chose to play some of my sophomores tonight, to get them some varsity experience,” Arkansas High volleyball coach Kaylee Treas-Dalby said. “We’ve had some people out and some of my underclassmen really stepped up last week when I needed them to.

“They’re going to need the experience going forward into next year. That’s not taking anything away from my seniors, but we’re not in the postseason so we’re playing for next season now.”

The final set was closely contested by both schools from the opening serve.

Lakeside separated themselves with Arkansas High in the third set with their net play.

The set was tied 8-8 and Lakeside scored six consecutive points with Olivia Porter at the service line. Porter finished the set with 10 points.

Arkansas High was able to take its first lead of the match in the second set with Allyssa Young at the service line, 4-3.

Lakeside forced four consecutive Lady Back hitting errors, to regain the lead and serve.

The Rams scored eight points before AHS was able to break Lakeside’s serve.

Beau Kuhn added 10 kills for Lakeside and teammate Claire Graham finished the match with 10 points.

The Rams opened the first set with a double-digit lead behind the serves of Katie Ballard and Macy Landry. Landry accounted for nine service points during her time at the line.

The Lady Backs were able to break serve with a Keonnie Strickland kill. Strickland finished the set with two kills.

“It’s good for some of the younger players to know what the top teams in our conference looks like,” Treas-Dalby said. “I’m glad they won’t be blindsided when we throw them in the fire.”

Arkansas High is back in action on Thursday, traveling to Lake Hamilton for the season finale.
