North Lamar at Pleasant Grove,
TEXARKANA, Texas — Pleasant Grove dominated in all phases of the game and shut out North Lamar, 56-0, in a District 8-4A, D-II game on Friday at Hawk Stadium.
“I think our kids did a great job tonight of cleaning up things during the week,” Hawks head coach Josh Gibson said. “Our improvement showed during the game. The kids pulled together, had great communication and were locked in.”
Logan Johnson rushed for 110 yards on five carries and two touchdowns for Pleasant Grove, who totaled 385 yards of rushing.
The Hawks out gained the Panthers, 499-24 yards. Pleasant Grove clinched a playoff spot due to Spring Hill forfeiting next week’s game.
“The guys put themselves in a position for another playoff trip,” Gibson said. “This is the seventh year in a row that we have made the playoffs.”
Alex Galvan had a pick six with 11:47 to go in the third to give the Hawks a 41-0 edge. Hayden Koller scored from 12 yards out to make it 48-0 with 3:26 left in the third.
The clock ran without stopping for most of the third quarter and the fourth quarter.
Sean Green got his first varsity touchdown on a 3-yard run with 10:49 to go in the game for PG. Sam Bradshaw ran in the 2-point conversion to make it a 56-0 game.
Trenton Kelley found the end zone from six yards out to put Pleasant Grove up, 28-0, with 10:10 to go in the second quarter.
Garrett Harrison, a sophomore quarterback, earned his first varsity touchdown with a 1-yard plunge to paydirt to pad the Hawk lead, 35-0, with 4:27 until the half.
Johnson had the first two TDs of the game for Pleasant Grove. Johnson scored on a 68-yard scamper and a
1-yard, hard-nosed run. The scores gave the Hawks an early 14-0 lead.
Bradshaw caught a pass from Jalen Woodside, spun, and sped 54 yards to the end zone to extend the PG lead, 21-0, with 5:23 in the first.
The Black Hawk defense held North Lamar to just 12 yards in the first half (14 passing and -2 rushing). Landon Jackson had two sacks for a combined -13 yards in the first half.
