BRAD HAUGH 1. What are your top priorities if elected, and how do you plan to address them?

For Liberty-Eylau ISD to continue to be successful in the future we must take care of the backbone of our district, our teachers and students. I intend to work with administration and other LEISD board members to make sure our teachers are compensated well for educating our future. Our students must be equipped with every tool possible in order to receive a great education and be prepared for whatever their dreams are after graduation.

We as a district must ensure that ALL our students get the best opportunity to succeed in whatever they may want to do in life, whether that be an ER doctor, a pipeline welder or a chef. Our CTE program is topnotch and I will work with others to make sure it remains that way.

2. What is your stance on public education, and how can we better our schools amid a pandemic?

My entire family, including myself, all received a wonderful public education from L-EISD. I am a 3rd generation Leopard with the 4th generation, my son, a current LEMS 8th grader. A universal right to learn and be educated is the foundation of the public-school system.

In the mist of COVID public schools have had to change on the fly. I must commend Liberty-Eylau for the tremendous job they have done. Additional sanitation and instruction on virtual learning have helped our teachers during this trying time. Our teachers deserve a huge amount of recognition. Our role as board members is to do whatever we can to give teachers the resources they need to continue excelling during this unprecedented time.

3. How important of a role does ath

letics play in the district, and how will you prioritize athletics if elected?

I think all our extra-curricular activities are extremely important at Liberty-Eylau. While athletics is at the forefront for a lot of our community, our band is in my opinion one of the best in the nation. While I enjoy a good Friday Night football game as much as anyone else, all our extracurricular activities are important for every participant. Liberty-Eylau has students routinely excel on the athletic field, on the stage, and in academic UIL contests. Providing those opportunities and celebrating them for all of our students is one of the most memorable parts of school. Extracurriculars, including sports, are a point of pride in a district.

4. What is your stance on remote learning, and how do we make that experience most fulfilling for at-home learners?

In person learning is impossible to replace but is necessary during the pandemic. While deadlines are important, I think allowing the parent to teach and the student to learn at whatever pace is comfortable with them can alleviate some of the stress of remote learning. Our curriculum team has done a great job preparing our staff to teach kids wherever they are.

5. What do you plan to do to best equip students with learning materials and a learning atmosphere that prepares them for the future?

Making sure everyone of our students has an opportunity to succeed after graduation is top priority, no matter what career path they may choose. Making sure our teachers have the proper materials and a comfortable classroom to ensure this happens is fundamental to their success. The single largest indicator of student success is the quality of the teacher in the classroom. We as board members are here to make sure we recruit and retain the best teachers and staff possible, by listening to any concerns staff or students may have and working to make sure they are resolved so everyone has an opportunity to be successful.
