Active COVID- 19 cases down, deaths up in region

Active COVID-19 cases in Texas’ Bowie and Cass counties decreased Monday to Thursday, while both counties reported additional deaths because of the disease.

In Bowie County, estimated active cases — people currently sick — held at 457 in that time frame, and in Cass County, active cases fell from 56 to 40, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Bowie County reported one additional resident’s death because of COVID-19, bringing the total to 119. Cass County added two deaths for a total of 45.

Bowie County’s cumulative confirmed coronaviru­s case count increased from 2,777 to 2,830 Monday to Thursday, and 3,179 patients in the county have recovered.

Cass County’s total case count went up from 838 to 841, with 1,152 recoveries.

Elsewhere in Northeast Texas, Red River County’s case count rose from 276 to 281 in the past week, Morris County’s from 315 to 321 and Titus County’s from 1,925 to 1,943, according to TDSHS.

The Arkansas Department of Health had not updated the state’s coronaviru­s statistics by presstime Thursday.

In Northwest Louisiana, Caddo Parish’s total case count increased from 16,240 to 16,792 Monday to Thursday, and Bossier Parish’s from 8,026 to 8,297, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

Statewide, Louisiana reported 296,499 cases and 7,272 deaths, and Texas reported 1,464,556 cases and 26,208 deaths.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 18,391,571 total cases in the U.S. so far, with a national death toll of 325,096.
