AHS girls win big at relays

Host Arkansas High takes top honors in four individual and all four relay events

TEXAKANA, Ark. — Arkansas High’s girls and Magnolia’s boys took top honors Thursday night in the annual Roy ‘Doc’ Walker Relays at Razorback Stadium.

The Lady Backs scored 138.5 points in the track and field event to capture the girls crown and El Dorado was second with 117.

Magnolia’s boys totaled 120 points to defeat runner-up Arkansas High, 120108. Nashville was third with 96 points.

The Lady Backs used a team effort in knocking off El Dorado. They won four individual events and all four relays.

Arkansas High first places went to Zniah Nelson in the 300 hurdles, Staijah Taylor in the 100 hurdles, Alyssa Grissom in the 100 and KeeYonece Butler in the 400.

The Lady Backs’ relay teams were: 4x100 (Staijah Taylor, Alyssa Grissom, Vicazia Williams, Zniah Nelson); 4x200 (Keniyah Bryant, Alashae English, Latimbrean­na Walker, Makaya Dodd), 4x400 (KeeYonece Butler, Sierra Watson, Alyssa Grissom, Zniah Nelson); and 4x800 (Kylie Lindley, Unique Traylor, KeeYonece Butler, Alashae English).

Other first places went to Ashdown’s Jeana Paredes in the 800; De Queen’s Joselin Sanchez in the 1600, Abigal Barker in the 3200; and Genoa Central’s Lani Lanier in the pole vault.

The Razorbacks’ Jamarious Johnson and Louis Blackwell were 1-2 in the 300 hurdles, Johnny Murphy won the discus and the 4x400 relay team of Israel Nicholson, Tylee Green, Anton Harper and Jeremiah French broke the tape to beat runner-up Nashville.

Other first-places went to Nashville’s Ladainian Hendrix in the 100 and Randy Ortiz in the 1600; Ashdown’s Johnny Hart in the 800, Trent Roberts in the pole vault; and De Queen’s Juan Maldonado in the 3200.

Magnolia won five events and used its depth to win the boys division.
