Electric Cooperative announces Youth Tour, scholarship opportunities
The annual Youth Tour event, sponsored by Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative and the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas, is accepting applications through April 12.
Up to four area students have the opportunity compete for several $5,000 scholarships during the Youth Tour.
The focus of the weeklong Youth Tour, scheduled for June 21-25 and conducted via Zoom, will be on the importance of public service. Students will learn about the cooperative business model, interact with state and federal elected officials and hear from special guest speakers.
Current high school juniors, with a parent, grandparent or guardian who are member of Southwest Arkansas Electric Cooperative are eligible to apply for Youth Camp (include the member’s name and account number with submission).
Eligible students have two ways to apply by the April 12 deadline: a video no longer than 10 minutes or an essay that is at least 500 words long. Submissions should include a short introduction and a service project idea and how its completion will benefit the community.
Students do not have to complete a service project to participate in the Youth Tour. However, to be considered for a scholarship, the project must be completed and verified. Youth Tour applicants must also submit an up-to-date high school transcript and letters of recommendation from the high school principal and counselor (or favorite teacher) explaining why the student will make an exemplary participant.
Video submissions can be emailed by April 12 to rmorrow@swrea.com. The essays, along with letters of recommendation and transcript, should be postmarked or delivered by April 12 to:
