- —LORI DUNN

TEXARKANA, Texas —A blowout caused a tractor-trailer to strike a concrete barrier on Interstate-30 and catch fire early Monday.

The accident was similar to one that occurred Friday morning, near the same location on I-30.

The Texas Department of Public Safety responded at 4:29 a.m.-Monday to the crash on I-30 near Loop 369/Jarvis Parkway in Bowie County, according to a DPS report.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2020 Peterbilt truck tractor pulling a trailer was westbound on I-30 in a construction zone . The Peterbilt’s left front tire blew out, causing the truck to strike a concrete barrier and part of the guardrail. The Peterbilt and trailer caught fire.

The driver was not injured. A female passenger was taken to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to the report.

Traffic was diverted to St. Michael Drive at the Summerhill Road exit and the westbound lanes of I-30 were closed for several hours.

The crash remains under investigation.

The accident was the second vehicle accident and fire in just three days that shut down portions of I-30.

At 5:30 a.m. Friday, DPS responded to a 18-wheeler hitting a guardrail at the 369/Jarvis Parkway exit. That vehicle also caught fire and resulted in the westbound side of I-30 being completely shut down.

That accident also remains under investigation.
