Habitat Resale store now open

TEXARKANA, Texas — Shopping enthusiasts inside the newly opened Habitat For Humanity Resale store on New Boston Road seemed to create more of a Christmas Eve rather then a Memorial Day atmosphere Saturday.

After more than six months of preparation, the local HFH office held the official grand opening of its 11,145-square-foot resale store for a flurry of shoppers.

“We’ve been looking for a large spot, with a large store house, for a long time now, so we are very glad to have Habitat locate here. to further their mission,”said Texarkana, Texas, Interim City Manager David Orr during the grand opening.

James Harrington, with the local Green, Harrington and Bunn Real Estate firm, said having Habitat occupy the building became a true honor.

“Habitat For Humanity is such a great organization and we are so grateful to be a part of this occasion to celebrate this new outlet and its opening,” he said.

Texarkana Chamber of Commerce President Mike Malone said having the store open means a lot more to the community then just having another business outlet.

“On behalf of the chamber, we are very excited because this isn’t just about getting a new business opened in the business community,” he said. “This is about building homes for people and making this a better community.”

Late last year, Habitat managed to secure a grant that allowed the organization to hire a Hot Springs, Arkansas-based consulting firm to help find the storage building and now the complex is known officially as the HFH of Texarkana Restore.

Collected sales proceeds will be used to finance future local Habitat home building projects.
