100th Birthday

-

Eleanor Corinne Vetrano celebrated her 100th birthday at her home on May 13 with family and friends. She was born to William Clarence Sanders and Ora Mae Sanders in Columbia County, Arkansas, on May 13, 1921. Her only sibling, Clarice Cloud, lived to the age of 98. Although born on Friday the 13th, her life debunked the superstition it was an unlucky day. Eleanor attended Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas. She later moved to Texarkana, Texas, and began work at Red River Arsenal, now Red River Army Depot. She was employed for 34 years until her retirement.

Eleanor and Alexander “Alex” Vetrano married on August 5, 1950 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where she has been a member for 71 years. She and Alex had four children, twin sons Larry and Jerry, and two daughters, Becky Vetrano Fitzhugh and Sandy Vetrano Blair.
