Velma Dean “Sue” Johnson Terral of Hooks, Texas passed away October 9, 2021 in Texarkana, Texas. She was born March 21, 1925, as the youngest child of Susie Ella May Johnson and William Joseph Johnson. She attended James Bowie School and was the Valedictor­ian of her graduating class. Velma Dean met and married James Harrison Terral during her final year of school and was given the nickname “Sue” by her husband.

Sue was a stay at home mom for many years, but went to work at Red River Arsenal and later retired after many years of service. She was a devoted wife and mother and loved watching her boys play ball. She and James enjoyed camping, fishing, and even traveling once all her children had families of their own. She enjoyed water skiing even though though she was a non-swimmer and always took her turn on skis once everyone else had taken a turn. She was a faithful member of Prospect Primitive Baptist Church in Simms, Texas, w here she served as Treasurer for many years.

She is survived by five children: Barbara Terral of Hooks, Texas, James Larry and Becky Terral of Flower Mound, Texas, Bill and Marilyn Whitten of Hooks, Texas, Mike and Tina Terral of College Station, Texas, and Terry Joanna Terral of Carthage, Texas. She also leaves behind ten grandchild­ren and seventeen great grandchild­ren.

Graveside services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Old Union Cemetery on Hwy 67 in Simms, Texas.

Visitation will be 6-7:30 P.M. Monday, October 11, 2021 at Bates Family Funeral Home on Hwy 82 in De Kalb, Texas.
