TEXARKANA, Texas — The Pleasant Grove Independent School District is considering buying land which, according to Google Map, has the same address as its old elementary school.

At the Board of Trustees meeting this evening, Trustees will consider a resolution authorizing the purchase of property consisting of approximately 4.352 acres at 6500 Pleasant Grove Road.

There have been earlier conversations about buying this property,” the agenda packet says.

“This resolution will authorize and approve entering into a real estate contract for the purchase of the property,” according to the agenda packet. “This resolution will also authorize the Superintendent to negotiate and sign a real estate sales contract for the purchase of the property, tender the purchase price, and the amount of closing and other costs to the title company for payment to the seller of the property, and execute any other documents necessary to effect the purchase.”

The school district recently opened up a new elementary school 2800 Galleria Oaks.

Superintendent Chad Pirtle will advise Trustees on the progress of a Career and Technical Education addition to the high school during his communication information updates.

Pirtle said during last month’s meeting that the district has plans to update its facilities, and that updates would come soon.

In addition to this update, Financial Director Derick Sibley will conduct a public hearing on PGISD’s Financial Integrity Rating System for the 2019-2020 fiscal year. The district received a rating of “Superior” and a score of 94, according to officials.

Keven Ellis, who serves as chair of the State Board of Education (District 9), will recognize Anna Hornsby, who was named the recipient of the 2021 Heroes for Children Award given by the Texas SBOE.

In other news, the board will consider the approval of an item regarding the purchase of 250 Chromebooks for the high school. The cost would be $35,250.

The board consider the property-purchase resolution later in the meeting, after a closed session.

(The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Central Services Boardroom, 8500 North Kings Highway.)
