Ashdown Community Auction to be held Feb. 12

- By Andrew Bell

ASHDOWN, Ark. — The Ashdown Community Foundation will hold its 10th annual community auction on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the Domtar Community Advisory Team and the Ashdown Community Foundation. All proceeds will be used for community development and beautification projects in downtown Ashdown and the City Park.

These proceeds, plus a 2022 Blue & You Foundation for a Healthier Arkansas grant worth $150,000, will be specifically used to construct a 4,400-square foot inclusive playground at the City Park.

The funding goal for this auction is $100,000.

“This event is a great way to give back to the community by raising funds to build an inclusive playground at the Ashdown City Park,” said Tammy Waters, Ashdown Community Foundation Board Member. “It’s amazing to see what a community can accomplish when they pull together for a cause.”

Members of the foundation believe that an inclusive playground will allow children of all abilities the enjoyment of safe play with a variety of playground components, enabling children to develop physically, socially and emotionally without barriers normally encountered on a playground.

“We currently have thousands of dollars’ worth of items donated and would appreciate anything that individuals would like to donate to the auction,” Waters said. “Thus far, donated items include electronic equipment, grills, guns, handcrafted specialty items and sports memorabilia, just to name a few.”

The event will also include a silent auction, penny auction, baked goods, special prize raffles, card raffles, food concessions and a children’s activity area.

(The event will be held at Ashdown High School, 171 South Locust St. Doors will open at 4 p.m., and the event will begin at 6 p.m.)
