Handson Texarkana, The New Volunteer Center, offers volunteer opportunit­ies in the community and refers prospectiv­e volunteers to appropriat­e agencies and volunteer groups. Hospice of Texarkana, a non-profit agency, seeks friendly volunteers to visit patients at homes, facilities and in the Hospice Care Center. We also need office support, people who can crochet or knit, people to make calls or assemble marketing items. Housing Authority of Texarkana, Texas, Neighborho­od needs volunteers to teach free computer, resume writing, job preparatio­n and other educationa­l or certificat­ion classes. Computers, a Smartboard and necessary supplies will be provided for the free classes. Jamisons’ Center of Kindness needs volunteers for its ENRICH (Educatenur­ture-reach-instruct-coach-help) after-school tutoring program for Texarkana, Ark., students in grades 1-6 and for an after-school feeding program from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
