Six local, area teams alive in Texas playoffs
NORTHEAST TEXAS — Two softball teams and four baseball teams remain playing in their respective state playoffs this week.
In the softball regional quarterfinals, Pleasant Grove in 4A and Hughes Springs in 3A won last week.
The Lady Hawks (15-9-2) clash with Mabank (26-6-1) in a bestof-3 series at Winnsboro High School. Game 1 is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, and the second game will be at 6 Friday. If a third game is needed, it is scheduled for 12:30 Saturday.
The Lady Mustangs (25-3-1) face West Rusk (31-1) in a series at Hallsville High School. The opener is set for 7 Friday, with Game 2 at 2 Saturday. If the series is tied, a third game will follow.
Liberty-Eylau (18-11-1) is the lone local team still playing in the baseball postseason. The Leopards face Brownsboro (20-8) in a Class 4A best-of-3 area series at Winnsboro. The first game is at 7 Thursday, it continues at 7 Friday and a third game, if needed, will be played at 2 Saturday.
Maud joins the playoffs this week after a bye last week. The Cardinals face Hawkins in a 2A best-of-3 series at Winnsboro on the same days at the L-E and Brownsboro series.
On Thursday and Friday, Maud and Hawkins play at 4:30, and on Saturday the third game will start at 11 a.m.
Hooks (19-8) plays Sabine (198) in a 3A area series at Marshall High School. Games 1 and 2 are set for 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, respectively. If a third game is needed, it will be played at 3 Saturday.
McLeod and Beckville play a 2A series at Marshall with a doubleheader set for 4:30 Wednesday. If the series is tied, Game 3 will be at 11 a.m. Saturday.
