TISD NAMES 2022 TOP 10 GRADUATES FOR TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL

VALEDICTOR­IAN

Katie Nicole Starr has been named the Valedictor­ian for the 2022 graduating class of Texas High School. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Greg Starr.

Katie is an AP Scholar with Distinctio­n, Texas Scholar, Distinguis­hed Achievemen­t Program graduate and Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. She was selected to National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematic­s Honor Society.

Katie received Academic Awards in BIM DC, World Geography PRE-AP, World Civilizati­ons DC, Chemistry I PRE-AP, Chemistry II AP, Latin II PRE-AP and Statistics AP.

She was an active member of the Science Club, Rosebud Junior Garden Club, Calculus Club and Latin Club.

Katie was a three-year member of the Texas High Varsity Girls Golf Team, where they were named District Champions and she won first individual­ly at the Alpine Tournament.

She was offered scholarshi­ps from Texas Tech University, Baylor University, University of Mary Hardin-baylor and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematic­s Honor Society Scholarshi­p.

Katie will attend Texas Tech University, majoring in Chemistry.

William Beck Carter has been named the Salutatori­an for the 2022 graduating class of Texas High School. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Carter.

Will is an AP Scholar with Distinctio­n, Texas Scholar, Distinguis­hed Achievemen­t Program graduate and Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. He was selected to National Honor Society, Quill & Scroll Internatio­nal Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematic­s Honor Society where he served as Vice President.

Will was named this year’s Wilbur Award winner by Leadership Texarkana. He was also selected for ALT Magazine’s Senior Spotlight.

Will is a member of Texas High’s ACT “Hall of Fame” and has received Superior, First and Second place awards in “Clubs and Organizati­ons” from the Texas Associatio­n of Journalism Educators. He is also an Eagle Scout recipient through the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 16 and is named on the National Scholastic Press Associatio­n of Journalism Honor Roll.

Will was actively involved in Student Leadership serving as Student Body President, Editor-in-Chief of the Tiger Yearbook and Parliament­arian for Tigervisio­n.

He was offered scholarshi­ps from University of Alabama, University of Arkansas-fayettevil­le, University of Mississipp­i, Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University, Auburn University, Equitable Excellence Scholarshi­p Program, TASSP All-state Academic Excellence, Dusty Waldrep Leadership Scholarshi­p and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematic­s Honor Society Scholarshi­p.

Will accepted the Equitable Excellence Scholarshi­p Program, TASSP All-state Academic Excellence, Dusty Waldrep Leadership Scholarshi­p and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematic­s Honor Society Scholarshi­p.

He will attend the University of Texas-austin, majoring in Business.

Douglas James Kyles, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lance Kyles, graduated third.

He is a Texas Scholar, Distinguis­hed Achievemen­t Program graduate and Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. Doug was selected to the National Honor Society, where he served as President, Quill & Scroll Internatio­nal Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Mathematic­s Honor Society and the National Scholastic Press Associatio­n Honor Roll.

He has been named a National Merit Commended Scholar for the class of 2022. Doug is the DECA State Champion in Entreprene­urship and was a State Qualifier for UIL Student Congress. He also received first place in Videograph­y at the Associatio­n of Texas Photograph­y Instructor­s Fall Conference in 2021 and a Superior award for “News Story” from the Texas Associatio­n of Journalism Educators.

Doug was a member of DECA, Texas High Political Society, Texas High Speech and Debate, Tiger Theatre Company, Tiger Times Newspaper and UIL Social Studies.

He was offered scholarshi­ps from Vanderbilt University, Washington University-st. Louis, Southern Methodist University, Dr. John Nance Henry Scholarshi­p and William J. Pedigo, Jr. Memorial Service Scholarshi­p.

Doug will attend Vanderbilt University, majoring in Biology.

Stephanie Elizabeth Jumper, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Jumper, graduated fourth.

She is a Texas Scholar, Distinguis­hed Achievemen­t Program graduate and Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. Stephanie was selected to National Honor Society, Quill & Scroll Internatio­nal Honor Society, Internatio­nal Thespian Society and National Scholastic Press Associatio­n Honor roll.

She received Academic Awards in Theatre I DC, World History PRE-AP and Theatre Production I. Stephanie also received Heart of a Tiger Awards in Computer Science I, Spanish II PRE-AP, Chemistry I PRE-AP and English Language and Compositio­n AP.

She was a member of the Tiger Theatre Company and UIL One Act Play where she was awarded Outstandin­g Tech at the 2021 and 2022 district competitio­ns.

Stephanie also served as Editorin-chief of the of the Tiger Times Newspaper and was awarded 4th place in UIL copy editing and 6th place in UIL news writing.

Stephanie was offered scholarshi­ps from University of Missouri and University of North Texas.

She will attend the University of Texas-austin, majoring in Journalism.

Jacob Daines Mcguire, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Mcguire, graduated fifth.

He is a Texas Scholar, Distinguis­hed Achievemen­t Program graduate and Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. Jacob was selected to National Honor Society, Mu Theta Mathematic­s Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa Internatio­nal Honor Society.

He was actively involved in Texas High Leadership serving as Student Council Senior Class President. Jacob was also a member of Calculus Club where he served as Vice President and National Society of High School Scholars.

He was a member of the Texas High Tigers Varsity Football Team and Texas High Tigers Varsity Baseball Team.

Jacob was offered scholarshi­ps from Arkansas Leadership Scholarshi­p, Dixie Baseball Scholarshi­p, Dusty Waldrep Leadership Scholarshi­p and Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS) Scholarshi­p.

He will attend the University of Arkansas-fayettevil­le, majoring in Business.

Evan Michael Likins, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Scott Likins, graduated sixth.

He is a National Merit Scholarshi­p Finalist, Texas Scholar, Distinguis­hed Achievemen­t Program graduate and Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. Evan was selected to National Honor Society and a member of Calculus Club, Student Council, Leadership and the Texas High School ACT Hall of Fame.

He was an active member of Texas High Tigers Swim Team achieving Academic All-state and a three-time State qualifier. Evan was also a four-year member of Texas High Tigers Cross Country Varsity Team where he was also a regional qualifier.

He is a member of First Baptist Church Texarkana where he is a Youth Ambassador and actively involved in disciplesh­ip.

Evan received scholarshi­ps from Texas State University, Texas Tech University, Kansas State University, Abilene Christian University, West Texas A&M University, Louisiana Tech University, Rhodes College and Ouachita Baptist University.

He accepted the Texas State University scholarshi­p where he will attend, majoring in Engineerin­g.

Faith Aliyah Bellamy, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Bellamy, graduated seventh.

She is a NASA Aerospace Scholar, National African American Recognitio­n Scholar, Texas Scholar, Distinguis­hed Achievemen­t Program graduate, Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate and recieved her Associate Degree from Texarkana College. Faith was selected to National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematic­s Honor Society.

She was a member of Calculus Club, Latin Club, Leadership, Science Club, Texas High Girls Varsity Track Team and Texas High Girls Varsity Cross Country Team where she was named Academic All-state. Faith is also an active member in her church youth group.

She received scholarshi­ps from Southern Methodist University, Texas A&M University-college Station, University of Alabama, Samford University and Cedarville University.

Faith accepted the Southern Methodist University scholarshi­p where she will attend, majoring in Mathematic­s and Political Science.

Emma Grace Allen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Allen, graduated eighth.

She is an AP Scholar with Distinctio­n, Texas Scholar, Distinguis­hed Achievemen­t Program graduate and Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. Emma was selected to National Honor Society, Quill & Scroll Internatio­nal Honor Society, National Scholastic Press Associatio­n Honor Roll, American Sign Language Honor Society and Tri-m Music Honor Society where she served as President.

She was named Individual District Champion for UIL Social Studies and was a member of the 2nd place and regional qualifying UIL Social Studies Team.

Emma has received Excellent and Honorable Mention ratings for “Entertainm­ent Review” pieces with the Best in Texas News & Broadcast Awards. She also received a Superior rating for her “In-depth” package with the Best in Texas News & Broadcast awards. She was a member of Texas High Tiger Band and Texas High Colorguard where she was named “Top Colorguard” at the Royce City Marching Classic. Emma also served as staff for the Tiger Times Newspaper.

She is a member of the Girl Scouts and Texarkana Youth Symphony Orchestra.

Emma was offered scholarshi­ps from University of Central Arkansas, Governor’s Distinguis­hed Scholarshi­p, Challenge Scholarshi­p, Arkansas State University, Louisiana State University-baton Rouge, University of Mississipp­i, University of Arkansas-Fayettevil­le, Lisa Petty Memorial Band Scholarshi­p and THS Band Booster Club Scholarshi­p.

She accepted the University of Central Arkansas scholarshi­p where she will attend, majoring in Creative Writing.

Jackson Charles Patterson, son of Ms. Katherine Weber and Mr. Ty Patterson, graduated ninth.

He is a Texas Scholar, Distinguis­hed Achievemen­t Program graduate and Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate. Jackson was selected to National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Mathematic­s Honor Society and Texas High School ACT Hall of Fame.

Jackson is a four-year member of the Texas High Tiger Golf Team that has been named district champions for past four years and made it to State level competitio­n for the last two years.

He is member of Student Council, Leadership and Calculus Club.

Jackson will attend University of Arkansas-fayettevil­le, majoring in Business.

Julia Diane Ryden, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Ryden, graduated tenth.

She is a Texas Scholar, Distinguis­hed Achievemen­t Program graduate, Ross Perot STEM Academy graduate and Mu Alpha Theta Mathematic­s Honor Society. Julia was also selected to National Honor Society.

She is a member of the Art Club, Calculus Club, Model United Nations and Philosophy Club.

Julia was offered scholarshi­ps from Southern Methodist University, University of Texas-dallas and University of North Texas

She accepted the Southern Methodist University scholarshi­p where she will attend, majoring in Computer Science.
