Norton starts anew at Birdville High School
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas — Long-time Texarkana area athletic director and head football coach Barry Norton has begun a new chapter of his career at Birdville High School.
Norton announced his resignation from Arkansas High in April after spending 5 years with the Razorbacks. Previously, he spent 18 years as athletic director and head football coach at Texas High.
“After I resigned, I had a text message from Dr. Gayle Stinson in which she asked me if I would be interested in being the athletic director at Birdville,” Norton said. “I called her back and told her that I was interested. It all happened in one day.”
Norton is building upon 35 years of coaching experience. Stinson was previously a principal at Texas High and was instrumental in building athletic programs.
“She wanted me to come out here and we are going to try to build the programs together,” Norton said. “We are going to try to do everything the right way. My first official day was July 1st.
“I am focused on building relationships with everyone at the school. I will know what to expect from them and they will know what to expect from me. God has blessed me. I am getting my feet planted firmly on the ground and we have started our plans for the fall. We want to be sure that the school year starts off really well.”
The Birdville Hawks compete in District 5-5A Division I.
“I loved every day of my 23 years in Texarkana,” he said. “I will miss my friends and people there. We had a lot of great people that worked hard to make it great. And I am going to try to do the same thing here.”
