LOUISE DAVIS

-

Louise Morris Davis was born on February 11, 1920 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas in her family home. It wasn’t until a few years later that she had a paper birth certificate. She passed away on July 9, 2022 at the age of 102 year and 5 months.

Her personality was one of total optimism no matter how bad a situation was. She said that if something bad happened she would cheer up because something good was just around the corner. Her father was a Southern Baptist pastor making her a church member before she was born. She said that she remembers at church her daddy would sit her on a table and she would sing solos at the age of 6. It was at this age that she accepted Jesus as her Savior and never looked back. She attended Sophie B. Wright High School for girls in New Orleans, LA while her father attended the New Orleans Theological seminary during the depression 1932-1935. During this time money was scarce, but she only spoke of fond memories of the time with her mother and daddy. She didn’t go hungry but often wished for more food. She loved to eat and especially, loved to eat out where “they bring it to you”.

She attended Ouachita Baptist College obtaining a degree in Music Education in 1940. She lived during World War II and told many stories of working in a parachute factory, a candy counter, D-Day, and welcoming the soldiers home from war. Louise married George Davis in 1951 when he was in the US Air Force band in San Antonio, TX. They had two children, April and Wally. When Wally was disabled from encephalitis, George and Louise provided him with a loving home for many years building their lives around his needs. Louise received her Masters degree in Music Education from Ouachita Baptist University in 1967. She taught public school music for many years with her last position being at College Hill Junior High School in Texarkana.

Louise loved genealogy tracing her family tree back to the 1700’s. She is a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Colonial Dames. She loved to travel and visited Europe and Asia countless times. Louise was predeceased by her husband, George Davis and son, Wally Davis.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, April and Jeff Elliott of Centennial, CO, granddaughter and husband, Paige and Dylan Barela of Englewood, CO, and grandson, Ethan Elliott of Centennial, CO. The family would like to thank the many caregivers that provided care for Louise over the past few years including friends and staff of Windsor Cottage.

Funeral service will be 3pm Monday, July 11, 2022 at East Memorial Chapel-Moores Lane.

Family will receive friends from 2pm to 3pm at the funeral prior to the service.
