Netflix sci-fi series among big nominees at 74th Emmys

‘Stranger’ awards ceremonies: NBC closes out the summer with an illustriou­s show when the 74th Emmy Awards airs Monday, Sept. 12.

The three-hour awards show, which honors the year’s best moments and performanc­es in prime-time and latenight television, continues a decadeslon­g tradition of choosing notable “Saturday Night Live” cast members and writers as host, this year selecting none other than veteran comedian Kenan Thompson, who also received his very own Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Thompson will be presiding over a tight awards competitio­n this year, as new and returning titles vie for the top spots in their respective genres.

While nominees for Outstandin­g Drama Series include Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” “Ozark” and “Squid Game,” HBO’S “Euphoria” and “Succession,” Apple TV+’S “Severance” and Showtime’s “Yellowjack­ets,” the Comedy Series category sees its own group of impressive contenders with HBO’S “Barry,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Hacks,” Prime Video’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” Apple TV+’S “Ted Lasso,” FX’S “What We Do in the Shadows” and ABC’S “Abbott Elementary.”

“Killing Eve” stars Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh also each received nomination­s for Lead Actress in a Drama Series for their work in the show’s final season. They are joined by Reese Witherspoo­n (“The Morning Show”), Laura Linney (“Ozark”), Melanie Lynskey (“Yellowjack­ets”) and Zendaya (“Euphoria”).

Meanwhile, “Abbott Elementary” creator Quinta Brunson joins the nominees for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, thanks to her performanc­e in the sitcom’s freshman season.this is her first Emmy nomination.

The 74th Emmy Awards is produced by Done+dusted and Hudlin Entertainm­ent.

Tiana is going with the flow in Aruba after separating from her ex, leaving herself open to all genders and experience­s that may come along, while Natalie’s split from Michael has not hindered her desire for children of her own. Her new boss seems like quite a catch, though — if his baggage doesn’t prove to be too much for the pair.

And as Debbie hopes there is a man out there who appreciate­s her for the “fun, loving, kind-hearted woman” she is, Ceasar feels the pressure to find his life partner as his 50th birthday looms. Since his previous online relationsh­ip left him feeling used and manipulate­d, he seeks assistance from a profession­al matchmaker in Kyiv.

Three’s a crowd: The rings are off in Season 17 of “Sister Wives,” premiering Sunday, Sept. 11, on TLC.

“Sister Wives” follows the Browns — a polygamous family consisting of patriarch Kody, his wives Christine, Meri, Robyn and Janelle, and their cumulative 18 children — as they grow together in the southweste­rn United States.

The Season 17 teaser first alluded to a split when its usual title card containing four rings saw the third ring topple to the ground. In a later trailer, Christine parts ways with Kody, admitting that she feels he prioritize­s Robyn and that their lack of intimacy is irreconcil­able.

Kody enters Season 17 still grieving and feeling blindsided by Christine’s departure.all his relationsh­ips faced severe stress and damage during the COVID-19 pandemic-induced separation, but the dissolving of his relationsh­ip with Christine has left him questionin­g the validity of his other marriages as well.

From the remaining wives’ perspectiv­es (particular­ly Meri), Christine’s departure represents a significan­t loss to the family and their collective friendship.

Meri is also on rocky ground with Kody, who claims their relationsh­ip has lost its romantic spark.their sexual fire has dwindled to a smoking coal, but Meri assures she is not deterred by their lack of romance and that she has hope her bond with Kody will strengthen again soon.
