Arkansas High boys, girls split with Fouke

TEXARKANA, Ark. — Arkansas High’s girls only led once in the entire game with under a minute left to play, but Fouke’s Logan Smith sunk her only free throw of her four attempts with 3 seconds showing on the clock to give the Lady Panthers the thrilling 62-62 victory over the Lady Backs, keeping Fouke undefeated at 8-0 on the season.

The Lady Backs fell to 2-4. Smith tallied five points total as well.

The Panthers dominated the first half by forcing numerous turnovers, as they raced out to a 21-10 lead after the opening frame.

Fouke center Nailah Zetrenne led the way early on with eight points, hitting all four shots from the field. Kaylee Heflin chipped in a pair of 3-pointers of her own, finishing the night with eight points.

Zetrenne would later add a 3-pointer to give her a double-double, finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

The Lady Backs closed the half with 19-13 point advantage to bring the score to 34-29 in favor of the Lady Panthers, with Seaira Watson leading the scoring for Arkansas High with nine points. She finished with 19 points.

She was 9 of 9 from the free throw stripe.

Samaya Flowers also had six of her eight points in the first quarter for the Lady Backs.

AHS would cut Fouke’s lead down to two points in the fourth quarter, with Makayla Dodd leading the way for Arkansas High with six points in the final frame to keep the hosts within striking distance. Dodd finished with 20 points. The Lady Panthers would ultimately claw their way to the exciting win.

Keniah Bryant added 12 points for Arkansas High.

BOYS

ARKANSAS HIGH 49, FOUKE 38

After the first half came to an end with the score tied 18-18, the Razorbacks used their defense in the second half to pull away from the Fouke Panthers and capture a home court victory at Razorback Gym.

The Razorbacks found themselves trailing 10-3 after the opening quarter as Fouke used seven points from free throws, along with a 3-pointer, to get their scoring started. Colton Easley made 5 of 6 free throws for the Panthers, while Ethan Thornton converted his only 3-point attempt to go along with a free throw.

Senior Zach Graf had the only bucket of the first quarter for the Hogs, and center Trevion Nash contribute­d his lone point of the opening frame from the charity stripe.

Nash finished with five points. Arkansas High outscored the Panthers 15-8 in the second quarter to tie the score at halftime.

Graf paced the scoring for the Razorbacks in the frame with six points, as well as two more points from free throws.

Graf totaled 22 points for the game. Collen Garner, Dylan Vancam and Dalton Wood each added a bucket for the visitors.

The Razorbacks built a sixpoint lead in the third quarter and held on to close out the Panthers with an 11-point margin.

Senior Jeremiah Jones tossed in 4 of his 5 points in third frame, while juniors Jordan Williams and Mikel Watson both added five points.

Watson finished as the Razorbacks’ second-leading scorer with nine points.
