Gunslinger tournament tips off this week in New Boston
NEW BOSTON, Texas — This week marks another bigtime high school basketball tournament being played in the Texarkana region.
With Red River Hoopfest making its second return to Texarkana and gone, the focus now will shift to the Gunslinger Tournament, which is also an annual event for the area played in New Boston, Thursday through Saturday.
This year’s tournament features eight boys teams and eight girls teams.
In the boys’ bracket, Liberty-eylau begins Day 1 action against Hughes Springs at 9 a.m. on Thursday.
Arkansas High will take on Daingerfield at 1:30 p.m., followed by Pleasant Grove against Idabel, Oklahoma, at 4:30 p.m., and host New Boston taking on Hope at 7:30 p.m.
The Liberty-eylau and Hughes Springs winner will take on the winner of the Arkansas High-daingerfield matchup at 1:30 p.m. Friday, and the winners of the Pleasant Grove-idabel and New Boston-hope will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The losers of those games will play Friday at 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., respectively, and the bracket will fill out accordingly until the championship game is played at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The girls’ games will be a set schedule, with New Boston and Bloomburg beginning play at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, followed by Pleasant Grove-clarksville at noon, Atlanta-bloomburg at 3 p.m. and New Boston-hope at 6 p.m.
Clarksville will take on Bloomburg in the 10:30 a.m. game Friday; Pleasant Grove clashing with Atlanta at noon; New Boston playing Clarksville at 3 p.m.; and Hope and Atlanta meeting at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, Pleasant Grove plays tourney host New Boston at 10:30 a.m., followed by Atlanta-clarksville at noon, Pleasant Grove again against Hope at 3 p.m. and Bloomburg-hope at 6 p.m.
