Texas A&m-texarkana sweeps Texas College

TEXARKANA, Texas — The Texas A&m-texarkana basketball teams keep rolling along with easy victories over Texas College Saturday at the Nest.

The Lady Eagles (6-1) easily defeated the Steers (1-1), 90-47, and Eagles (8-1) had a little more difficult time before winning, 83-66.

The Lady Eagles had a well-balanced attack with 12 players getting into the scoring column.

Texarkana had at least 20 points in each quarter, including a 23-14 advantage in the opening period, and had an even bigger lead at halftime, 43-20, when it outscored the visitors, 20-6, in the second stanza.

Eight players scored for the Eagles in the first half, with Vasha Moore scoring 10 and Ashlei Lopez nine.

The team connected on 19 of 40 field goal attempts in the first half.

The Eagles doubled up on the Steers in the third quarter, 26-13, and had a 21-14 advantage in the final period.

Moore ignited the Eagles with 14 points, Lopez had 12 and Naomi Takleab 10.

Dyeshia Bailey led all scorers with 19 points for the Steers.

Texarkana’s next game will be Tuesday at Paul Quinn.

TAMU-T 83, TEXAS COLLEGE 66

Texas College jumped out to an early lead, and led for much of the first half until the Eagles were able to grab a 38-35 halftime advantage.

The Steers led by nine, 28-19, before the Eagles scored 11 straight to take the lead.

Kobe Powell, a 5-9 senior from Memphis, Tenn., topped the Eagles in scoring in the first half with 14 points, and the Steers’ Schwlck Doukaue kept pace also with 14 points, which included four 3-pointers.

The Tyler team stayed in contention in the second half, and led 49-48, at the 13:30 mark.

Texarkana then went on a wild scoring spree with 18 straight points to take a commanding 66-49 lead.

Former Pleasant Grove standout Connor Ouellette scored eight points, and freshman Colby Rasberry hit a pair of treys during that stretch.

The Eagles had their biggest lead, 74-53, and then coasted to the victory.

Powell led the Eagles with 18 points, while Rasberry had 16 and Ouellette had 12.

Doukaue led the Steers with 20 points.

The Eagles’ next home game will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against University Southwest.
