Top recruit Tre Johnson shows out at Red River Hoopfest

TEXARKANA, Texas — Day 2 of the Red River Hoopfest featured top-level talent on the hardwood from six different states around the country.

LAKE HIGHLANDS 89, PARKVIEW 52

It was all Dallas Lake Highlands from start to finish in the Wildcats’ blowout victory over Little Rock Parkview.

Tre Johnson, the no. 1 ranked recruit in the country for the Class of 2024, started off scorching hot in the first quarter and didn’t stop there. The 6-foot-6 junior guard shot a ridiculous 7-for-9 from three and dropped 23 points in the first half alone. Johnson finished the game with 37 points, eight 3-pointers, eight rebounds and four assists.

This hot start allowed the Wildcats to jump to a 52-29 lead at halftime, shooting nearly 79% from the field, and they extended the lead from there on out. Quinton Perkins scored 19 points, while Jaylen Washington added 12.

For Parkview, Carson Backus and Drake Marbley led the team with 14 points each.

LAPOYNOR 85, LAKEVIEW (LA.) 58

After a back-and-forth contest in the first quarter, Lapoynor pulled away in the second quarter and never looked back in the first game.

The Flyers had five double-digit scorers, with Cooper Gracy netting 19. Teammates Evan Almeida added 14 points, Dijuan Whitehead and Mathew Driskell each finished with 13, and Cort Reid had 10.

Lakeview’s Dayton Taylor scorched the nets for a gamehigh 20 points off the bench and Javontae Davis contribute­d 14 points and eight rebounds in the loss.

MOUNT PLEASANT 78, PUTNAM CITY WEST 45

Mount Pleasant scored the game’s first points and never lost the lead en route to a big victory over Putnam City West.

Payton Chism led the way for the Tigers, scoring 14 points and bringing down a team-high six rebounds. Kelcey Morris and and Reggie Webster added 13 and 12 points, respective­ly, while six other teammates also scored in the win.

Mount Pleasant scored 28 points off turnovers.

Jaden Constant had a game-high 15 points in the Patriots’ loss, while Chiante’ Tramble and Kaidon Rayfield finished with 10 points apiece.

MARION 69, JOHN PAUL 53

John Paul took an early lead but that wouldn’t last long as Kayden Nesbitt and Marion blew past the Cardinals in the Hoopfest’s third game of the morning.

Nesbitt, who played 31 minutes, finished with a game-high 18 points and eight rebounds and Donnie Cheers came off the bench to give the Patriots a spark with 11 points

in the win. Lyndell Buckingham added 10 points.

John Paul’s Austin Senters was the only Cardinal to record double-digit points, scoring a team-high 16.

LEGACY 64, BARTLETT 54

Legacy Dominated the second half to pull away from Bartlett in a highly competitiv­e matchup.

The Titans outscored the Panthers 39-23 in the last two quarters, hitting 10 out of 17 field goals and converting 16 free throws.

Senior guard Fred Payne led the way with 18 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Bartlett had two double-digit scorers, with Christian Alston dropping 12 points and Regale Moore scoring 11.

BENTONVILL­E WEST 62, O.D. WYATT 47

Bentonvill­e West outlasted O.D. Wyatt thanks to a strong second half, shooting over 50% from the field.

Tucker Anderson, a 6-foot-8 senior, led the Wolverines for the second day in a row with 24 points. Anderson shot a perfect 16-of-16 from the free-throw line. Dawson Price and Zahir James both contribute­d 10 points.

For the Chaparrals, senior guard Myles Rigsby scored a team-high 18 points and snatched a game-high six steals. Nicholas Gunter and D’adrian Thomas added 10 points each.

FRIDAY NIGHT LATE GAME

DUNCANVILL­E 66, BARTLETT 51

Duncanvill­e’s size was the difference in its convincing win over Bartlett in the final game of the Hoopfest Day 1.

Senior Ron Holland, who is committed to the University of Texas, led the way for Duncanvill­e with 24 points, seven rebounds and three steals. KJ Lewis poured in 17 points and dished out four assists as the Panthers controlled the game from start to finish.

For Bartlett, Regaele Moore scored a team-high 16 points, while Javar Daniel contribute­d 14 points.

GIRLS

DUNCANVILL­E 70, PUTNAM CITY WEST 63

An impressive display of shot making fueled Duncanvill­e’s win over a scrappy Putnam West team.

Driving the shotmaking for the Pantherett­es was sophomore Kaylinn Kemp, who poured in 31 points on 55% shooting from the field. She also racked up four steals. Tristen Taylor and Mariah Clayton contribute­d 14 points each.

For the Lady Patriots, senior forward Jazmin Adams kept them afloat most of the game with 21 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Caya Smith added 15 points.

DESOTO 70, BARTLETT 46

Desoto’s stifling defense and transition play was too much for Bartlett to handle as the Lady Eagles ran away with the victory.

The Eagles shot an impressive 64% from the field and racked up a whopping 10 team steals. Freshman forward Amari Byles topped Desoto with 16 points, while sophomore guard Vivian Franklin added 14.

For Bartlett, senior guard Raven Sims led the team in scoring with 17 points.
