The 48th People’s Choice Awards honor best in the business

The ‘people’ have spoken: Get ready, pop culture fans, because the power is in your hands. Find out who tops the lists of the entertainm­ent industry’s favorite performers when the 48th Annual People’s Choice Awards airs live from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, Tuesday, Dec. 6, on NBC.

An all-encompassi­ng awards show that spans mediums, the PCAS are unique in that they honor public personalit­ies who have made waves in film, television, music and pop culture as a whole, all in one entertainm­entpacked showcase with over 40 awards categories.

This year, long-standing “Saturday Night Live” cast member Kenan Thompson comes off of a smash-hit hosting gig at the Emmys in September to host the PCAS for the second time.thompson is also among this year’s list of stars nominated for Comedy Star of 2022.

Another notable name at this year’s awards is Canadian film star Ryan Reynolds, who is set to receive the People’s Icon award.

The “Deadpool” (2016) actor is being honored for his contributi­ons to film and television, including his recent Netflix film “The Adam Project”; his new holiday film “Spirited,” co-starring Will Ferrell (“Elf,” 2003); and the Disney+ docuseries “Welcome to Wrexham,” co-starring “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelph­ia” star Rob Mcelhenney on their joint venture as the new co-owners of a Welsh football club.

Trailblazi­ng singer, songwriter, musician and entreprene­ur, Lizzo, will also receive special recognitio­n at this year’s awards, according to an exclusive announceme­nt made by Billboard. The “Juice” singer, in addition to being nominated for five awards across the board — for Female Artist of 2022, Song of 2022 (for “About Damn Time”), Album of 2022 (“Special”), Social Celebrity of 2022 and Competitio­n Show of 2022 (for “Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls” on Prime) — is also receiving the People’s Champion Award “for her groundbrea­king contributi­ons to music and television, as well as her commitment to championin­g overall diversity and inclusivit­y across race, gender, sexuality and size” (per Billboard).

Leading the music categories this year are rapper Bad Bunny (“Me porto bonito”) and pop singer Harry Styles (“As It Was”) with seven nods and six nods, respective­ly.

Contenders for favorite film, meanwhile, include “Bullet Train,” “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” “Elvis,” “Jurassic World Dominion,” “Nope,” “The Batman,” “Thor: Love and Thunder” and “Top Gun: Maverick.”

Bring on the bar: Buddies Blake Shelton and Carson Daly from NBC’S hit singing competitio­n series “The Voice” move away from crooners and crowds as they take on a whole new kind of competitio­n in “Barmagedde­on,” a new series premiering Monday, Dec. 5, on USA.

The duo joins WWE Hall of Famer Nikki Bella, who takes up the reins as host of the new show, and head to Blake’s bar, Ole Red, in Nashville, for a front-row seat as their celebrity friends compete in a gauntlet of over-the-top bar games. In each episode, two celebrity guests team up with a viral internet sensation, plucked from obscurity following their epic misadventu­res online, to compete in classic bar games with a twist — including Keg Curling, Drunken Axe Hole,air Cannon Cornhole, Sharts (“Shelton Darts”) and more.all the while, Carson mans the bar while Blake takes the stage for live-music singalongs.

In the series’ inaugural season, audiences are treated to superstar matchups between singers Gwen Stefani (“Hollaback Girl”) and Sheryl Crow (“If It Makes You Happy”); singers Elle King (“Ex’s & Oh’s”) and Chris Young (“Famous Friends”); race car drivers Clint Bowyer and Jimmie Johnson; pro wrestlers Sasha Banks (“WWE Raw”) and Brie Bella (“WWE Smackdown!”); actors Jay Pharoah (“Saturday Night Live”) and Martin Kove (“The Karate Kid,” 1984); singer Trace Adkins (“Honky Tonk Badonkadon­k”) and Tennessee Titans football coach Mike Vrabel; Shelton and singer Kane Brown (“Thank God”); and actors Lil Rel Howery (“Harlem”) and Malin Akerman (“Billions”).
