Hawks win 16 medals in Kilgore tourney

KILGORE, Texas — Pleasant Grove brought home 11 medals in the Kilgore Invitation­al tennis tournament Friday that featured 16 teams.

“Schools competing included Lindale and Wills Point, the top 2 ranked teams in our region,” said Pleasant Grove coach Erik Pickett.

“We ended up finishing third overall, with a couple tiebreaker close loses that could have put us as the overall team leader.

“It’s a great feeling seeing this team believe in each other, knowing they are serious contenders in the hunt towards state.” Here are the Hawks’ highlighte­d scores: Boys ‘A’ singles: John Tomberlain, first; Boys ‘B’ singles: Jackson Tomberlain, second; Girls ‘A’ singles: Rawya Hazin, first; 3rd Boys A Doubles: Jack Humphrey/ Andy Tye, third; Boys ‘B’ Doubles: Skye Carter and Heath Wood, consolatio­n winners; Girls ‘A’ Doubles: Lilly Pace and Rose Anderson, second; Girls ‘B’ Doubles: Caroline Shipp and Lynleigh Henderson, fourth; Mixed ‘A’ Doubles: Elaina Shellogg and Rhett Gatlin, fourth; Mixed ‘B’ Doubles: Hadley Davis and Ayres Fuqua, third; Morgan Yost and Dylan Yost, fourth.

Pleasant Grove’s next match will be next Friday at Tyler Legacy where the Hawks will compete against 32 teams.

SOCCER LADY HAWKS FALL 3-1

SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas — Pleasant Grove girls fell to Sulphur Springs, 3-1, in District 15-4A soccer action Friday at Wildcat Stadium.

“I thought they were the fastest team and the best team we have played this season and their No. 3 (Rowan Faircloth) was the best player we have seen all season,” said Lady Hawks coach Andy Allen. “We had trouble with them in the first half and then we made some adjustment­s. The girls played a lot better in the second half. We lost 3 to 1 and I hope those adjustment­s will pay off in the rematch at Pleasant Grove.”

Sulphur Springs scored all of its goal in the first half and Pleasant Grove notched its goal in the second half.
