Pleasant Grove boys take down Liberty-Eylau, 10-0, in soccer match

TEXARKANA, Texas — Pleasant Grove’s varsity boys soccer team got big contributi­ons from all of its players to post a 10-0 win over Liberty-Eylau on Tuesday night.

James Solomon and Bennett Solomon led the way for the Hawks, scoring two goals each. Andrew Hutcheson, William Otero, Krish Thapa, Whit Miller, Elias Flores and Addison Burgin all scored one.

Jake Welch, Hutcheson, Lincoln Jackson, Tommy Olosunde, Flores and Jackie Caler all tallied assists in the victory.

“Liberty-Eylau has a great coaching staff that we have a lot of respect for, and their team played very hard the whole game,” Pleasant Grove coach Christa Henry said. “We had a lot of fun and it was great to get a lot of our young guys involved in the game.”

PITTSBURG, Texas — Pleasant Grove’s varsity girls made sure to end the season on a high note.

The Lady Hawks had three double-digit scorers and raced past Pittsburg, 61-57, on Tuesday night to post their first district win to wrap up the season.

Autumn Crouch poured in a team-high 15 points, while Lady Hawk teammates Emma Henard finished with 15 points, including three 3-pointers, and Madison Carpenter adding 13 points. Sophomore Kenasia Henry had nine points.

“For our last game of the season, we came out with a win,” Pleasant Grove coach Codi Davidson said. “We played great defense, rebounded well, shared the ball and played good basketball.

“We had big energy from the start and we didn’t let up the entire game. Madison had a big game, Autumn did a great job driving in and Emma was a big-time player on the boards. I couldn’t be more proud of my team.”

McLeod overpowers

Union Grove

GLADEWATER, Texas — McLeod swept a pair of varsity basketball games against Union Grove Tuesday night.

The Longhorns took the boys game, 47-41, over the Lions and the Lady Longhorns won, 24-14.

McLeod’s boys improve to 23-9 overall and 8-3 in District 21-2A, which is good enough for second place behind front-running Hawkins (20-7, 9-1). Union Grove (1512, 7-3) is third in the league standings.

The Longhorns were led by Kannon Dempsey and Grayson Owens with 10 points each. Jaxon Smith added 8 points.

McLeod won the JV game, 36-21, behind Trisken Kennedy’s 13 points and Kason Cook’s 10 markers.

In the varsity girls contest, McLeod was paced by Reagan Mitchell with 12 points and Kenslee Cross with 8 points.

The Lady Longhorns climb to 20-14 overall and 10-2 in district, second in the league. Hawkins girls (19-2, 12-0) won their fifth straight district championsh­ip. Hawkins also won the JV girls league crown.

COLLEGE TENNIS TAMU-T men, women sweep Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas — For the second time in as many days, the Eagle men’s tennis team swept its opponent, this time dispatchin­g Austin College in all nine matches.

The six singles matches were won by a combined score of 72-15 while the doubles matches were taken by a score of 24-3.

A&M-Texarkana’s women’s tennis team opened its season Saturday with a 9-0 sweep of Austin College. The Eagles swept six singles matches by a total score of 72-5, and all three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-3.
