WEDNESDAY JAMES “J. T.” MCDOWELL

James “J. T.” Mcdowell, age 87, of Texarkana, Arkansas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, in a local hospice facility.

M r . Mcdowell was born on February 2, 1936, in Miller County, Arkansas. He retired from Hobart Manufactur­ing Company in Ohio and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas. He was a graduate of Arkansas High School, the class of 1955. He was a happy-golucky person who never met a stranger. He was a hardworkin­g individual and a great storytelle­r. He enjoyed photograph­y, hunting, fishing, and creating memories with his family. He loved to travel with his wife, Shirley. They traveled to all forty-nine states together except Hawaii. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchild­ren play sports. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two and half years, Shirley Mcdowell; and one son, David Mcdowell.

He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law: James and Kim Mc Dowell of Troy, Ohio; two daughters and sons-inlaw: Sherri and Daryl Perkins of Clifton Park, New York; and Sharon and Brian Kennedy of Marysville, Ohio; three brothers, Earnest Mcdowell and his wife, Bonnie; Jerry Allen Mcdowell; Jr. Mcdowell, and his wife, Phyllis; five sisters: Ada Jane House; Dorothy Ruple; Norma Peterson; Nancy Spears and Marie Jeane; eight grandchild­ren, Thad Mcdowell, Kara Huelskamp and husband, Eric; Kali Mcdowell, Kelsey Mcdowell, Zane Mcdowell, Kathleen Kennedy, Connor Kennedy, Victoria Perkins; five great-grandchild­ren; Bronson Huelskamp, Piper Huelskamp, Hadley Huelskamp, Scarlet Huelskamp, and Mia Mcdowell and a host of friends and other relatives.

Funeral Services will be at 11:30 A. M. Friday at Shiloh Baptist Church, with Rev. Wes Dean and Ken Guthrie officiatin­g. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 A. M. to 11:30 P. M.

A graveside service will be held in Tipp City, Ohio. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Local Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home, Arkansas.

BURNEY STRIPLIN

Burney Royce Striplin, age 66, of Fouke, Arkansas, died Wednesday, February 7, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

Striplin was born on

December 2, 1956, at the Army Military Base in Killeen, Texas. He was retired from the United States Army and Red River Army Depot. Burney enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and being outdoors. Burney’s nickname was Mr. Wilderness; you could always count on him for a word of advice and supplies. He and his wife Errolynn would travel into Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and New Mexico, camping and reenacting the Rendezvous days of the 1800s. He was a friend you could depend on in good or bad times. If Burney was your friend, you had a friend for life. His two little fury babies, Bella and Luke, had a special place in his heart. Burney’s most valuable treasure in life was his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ida Striplin; his twin sister, Brenda Joyce Striplin; one brother, Edward A. Striplin; his other sister, Jan A. Striplin; and one nephew, Shawn Striplin.

He is survived by his wife, Errolynn Striplin, of Fouke, Arkansas; one sister, Loretta Striplin of Texarkana, Texas; three brothers, William A. Striplin of Van Buren, Arkansas; Daniel Striplin of Poplar Bluff, Missouri and Mark Striplin of Wilton, Arkansas; nieces, nephews and a host of friends and other relatives.

TUESDAY ROGER INGVARDSEN

Roger Gordon Ingvardsen entered in to eternal rest on January 23rd, 2023. Roger was born in Pasadena, Texas on March 28, 1943, to Hans Peter “Buster” Ingvardsen and Gladys Viola Rasmussen.

He is survived by his son Brent and daughter-in-law Deidre, of Pelican, LA and daughter Tammy Ingvardsen of Plano, Texas; as well as his grandchild­ren, Jackson Ingvardsen and husband Aaron Gamble, Landon Royer and Kyrie Royer, and 7 great-grandchild­ren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Gary Ingvardsen and half-brothers, Donald & Deward Plant Jr.

Roger apprentice­d as a boilermake­r at Dow Chemical in Freeport, Texas. Roger attained the rank of Sergeant in the Texas National Guard as a Armor Scout. He moved to Texarkana, Texas in 1971 on the startup crew for Internatio­nal Paper’s Domino Mill. Roger was a 35-year veteran of Internatio­nal Paper where he worked as a mechanic until he was forced to retire due to an injury.

He was an avid reader, loved to dance, riding his bike, playing on his computer and making people blush with his saucy humor.

In his younger years, he loved gardening, camping, fishing and sailing on the coast.

Family wishes to thank Floretha King-smith and to Kathy and the Ihop ladies in Texarkana, Arkansas for their friendship and service to Roger.

EVA LAJUAN BROWN

Eva Lajuan Brown entered her heavenly home on February 3, 2023 at the age of 88. She was born on January 26, 1935, in Bradley, Arkansas. She graduated from Bradley High School and after finishing Texarkana Business College, she had a career in finance. She was a faithful member and longtime pianist for Rhema Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W.C. Brown, her parents and a great-nephew Quint Taber.

Her surviving relatives include her brother Wayne Keahey (Lavern), niece Lanell Yaber (Tab), nephew, Bram Keahey (Michelle) and great-nephews Geoffrey Fielder, Grant Fielder, Wesley Fielder (Kayla) and her great-nieces Kilpin Taber and Abigail Keahey.

She lived out her strong faith in Christ with her family, fellow church members and many friends. She was a beloved for her compassion for others and especially the well-being of children.

ELIZA DIVA MAE (BURNS) THOMAS

Eliza Diva Mae (Burns) Thomas, 87, of Texarkana, AR passed away peacefully at home on February 4, 2023. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, a devoted mother & grandmothe­r, and retired from the Ashdown

School System.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Alex Thomas; her parents, Allen & Lorena (Plumley) Burns and Edgar Lafferty; Four sisters, Veola Aaron, Geraldine Crank, Doris Walker, Francine Robison; Five brothers, Bryant Lafferty, Gilbert Lafferty, Garland Lafferty, Larry Lafferty, Wendell Lafferty.

Survivors include her Three children; Steve Thomas, Cheryl Thomas, and Cathrine & Ron Jackson. One brother, Jimmy & Wannell Laffery. Six grandchild­ren, Cori Jackson, Alex Thomas, Chas Thomas, Nicole Thomas, Tiffany (Thomas) Hill,

Deanna (Jackson) Parker. Nine great-grandchild­ren with number ten on the way. Numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Gayle Miller Sinquefiel­d, age 85, of Texarkana, Texas passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023. Gayle was born October 3, 1937 in Redwater, TX. She was a homemaker; mother; and Mema.

Ronald (Ron) Dee Little peacefully went to be with his Lord & Savior in the afternoon of December 25, 2022, at his home in Texarkana, Texas, at the age of 74.

He was born on Sept. 14, 1948, in San Angelo, TX. Ron graduated from Ballinger High School in 1967 & attended Tarleton State University. He is preceded in death by his parents James W. & Kathryn L. Little, Sr. & a brother James W. Little, Jr.

He is survived & deeply missed by his loving wife Tammy Saxton Little; his stepson Jagger Ryan Saxton, wife Meagan & grandson Kaleb of Houston; his stepson John Austin Wisdom & wife Lindsey of Oklahoma; his daughter Danna Little Fletcher, husband Jon, grandson Preston & granddaugh­ter Avery of Liberty Hill; his sister Carolyn L. Little Stark of San Angelo & numerous family members & friends.

DICKIE AKIN

The Man, The Myth, The

Dickie Lee Akin, 66, finished his mission on earth January 31st, 2023 at his home in Redwater, TX.

The mold was broke when Dickie was born June 15th, 1956 in Hobbs, NM. He attended Redwater school and graduated from Texas High.

Dickie was a retired heavy machine operator from Day & Zimmerman. Owner and operator of Big A’s Klean Kans. In his early years he worked as a ranch hand for Jimmy Clem, Brown & Root services, and a furniture mover for Home furniture. He was a skilled handyman, mechanic, huntsman, mudding profession­al, grill master, story teller, and jokester.

He was a devoted husband, father, pops, friend, and hero. He looked forward to his visits from his grandchild­ren while instilling family values and love. He loved riding his Harley, and loved his dog and cats.

When Dickie took off for that big pool party in the sky, he left behind wife Joann Akin, his son Michael Akin, daughter and son-in-law Rikki and Juan Galdamez, daughter Cristi Akin, and 7 beautiful grandchild­ren Aden and Alijah Love, Mattie

Power, Avery Galdamez, Chiles, Emma, and Joleen Akin.

He is now happily reunited with his sister Cissy Shoulders, and parents Edgar & Helen Akin.

Friends and Family will be gathering at 138 CR 1214 Texarkana, TX 75501 on Saturday February 11th 2023 between 2-6pm to celebrate the home going of a life well lived for Dickie.

CURTIS GLENDON GARNER

Curtis Glendon Garner, age 92, passed from this life on February 5, 2023 at Bentley Rehabilita­tion and Health Center in Texarkana, Arkansas. He was born on July 14, 1930 to Charlie and Alta Garner. Curtis was a machinist and if he had a problem he would invent a way to fix it and as he got older he would have his daughters out in the shop working by his side. He enjoyed tinkering with his car in his spare time. He also enjoyed working his grist mill. Curtis was a member of Grace Communion Internatio­nal.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlies Levi Garner and Alta Estell (Mouser) Garner; his wife, Lanetta Garner; daughter, Glenda Neff; two brothers, Charles Garner, Jr. and Robert Garner; two sisters, Marie Edington and Wanda Louise Garner; and great granddaugh­ter, Phenyx Adams.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Randall; her parents; two sisters, Eunice Wessels and Mary Mcmurrin; two brother-in-laws, Terry Mcmurrin and Michael Matthews; and a half-brother, Wayne Sturtz.

She is survived by one sister, Kay Matthews of Maud, Texas; two brothers, Everett Sturtz of Maud, TX, and James Sturtz of Cherokee, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Earnest Turner (“E.T.”) was born to the late Earl and Ocie Bell Turner on February 1, 1948 in Texarkana, Texas. He accepted Christ at an early age at Macedonia Baptist Church, and graduated from Macedonia High School in 1966. After high school, he served in the United States Army for 2 years. He was later employed at Internatio­nal Paper for 30+ years, where he retired as a supervisor and remained an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church until his passing.

He quietly departed this life on February 3, 2023. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ocie Turner; father, Earl Turner; and brothers, Embry Humphrey and Bennie Turner.

Janice Hensley, age 82, of Fouke, Arkansas passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. Janice was born February 2, 1940 in Fouke, Miller County, AR;

Janice’s love of the Lord brought her to pastor her church, House of God, AKA the Little White Church, for over 30 years, located on Highway 71, across from Sylverino Baptist Church. All denominati­ons were welcomed in her church. No one was ever turned away from her church doors. Sometime folks just driving by were compelled to turn around and come back.

Janice was loved by so many, not just family.

God gained an angel. She was and always will be loved and missed by all of us.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Hensley; mama and daddy, Ruth and Leonard Burns; son, Chuckie Taylor; brother, Wallace Burns; sisters, Etta Mae Harris, Wilma Scott, Vicki Burns, Ester Haworth, Vera Leslie, Lil Nichols, Fay Hensley, Evelyn Sams and Jeanette Burns; granddaugh­ters, Janice Hensley and Lacy Hensley.

CLARK LEWIS CAPEHEART

Clark Lewis Capeheart, 82, passed away at Barnes Nursing Home in Lonoke, Arkansas, on January 16, 2023.

Clark was born in Idabel, Oklahoma, on June 17, 1940, to Dayton and Easter Capeheart. He is survived by his brother, Ted Capeheart, and wife Jill; sister, Nina and husband Boyce Rhea; nieces, nephews, and numerous cousins.

Clark attended Foreman High School until he was diagnosed with mental illness when he was 17. He spent the rest of his life at Arkansas State Hospital at the Benton Unit, various nursing homes and Birch Tree Community, a non profit specializi­ng in taking care of mental patients.

Clark was interred in Dollarhide Cemetery, Foreman, Arkansas, on January 18, 2023. A Memorial Service will be held on February 16, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Dollarhide Cemetery Pavilion.

BETTY HUNTER

Betty L. Hunter, 78, of Texarkana, Arkansas, gained her wings on Monday, January 30, 2023. She was born July 29, 1944 in Clarksvill­e, Texas to the late Thelma Mathis Waller and Andrew Waller of Clarksvill­e. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School where she was a Cheerleade­r, played Basketball and Softball. She worked at Bryce’s Cafeteria, Wadley for five years in Dietary, Aide, and Housekeepi­ng.

Mrs. Hunter joined College Hill Baptist Church at the age of 12 under the Leadership of Rev. W.M. Davis. In 2012 she joined Union Hill Baptist Church.

First married to Louis Dunn and together two daughters were born: Vickie Dudley and Anita Williams. Later married Louis Hunter, Jr. and to this Union two Sons: Louis Hunter, III and Demorris Hunter. She was a loving Wife, Mother and Grandmothe­r and truly loved her Family and would do anything for them. Family, please stick together because she loved you all.

She was preceded in death by Mother: Thelma Waller, Father: Andrew Waller, Step-mother: Clara Waller, Husband: Louis Hunter, Jr., Sisters: Tracie Waller and Paulette Abraham.

LAURA HOUFF

Laura Etta Johnson Houff was born August 5, 1926, in Nash, Texas to the late Lionel Allen Johnson and Zualma Hayes Johnson. She was the identical twin to her confidante and best friend, Mamie Etta Johnson Davis, who preceded her in death in November 2019. Laura and Mamie were the last two of four girls born to this union. They learned to be grateful for all of their blessings, the value of hard work, and a wonderful work ethic.

On February 16, 1948, she married Lawrence L. Houff. They remained married until his passing on September 15, 1983. She was a loving and dedicated mother to her children. She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter - Doris Anne Lowe; one son - Lawrence L. Houff, Jr.; grandsons - Juan Houff, Jr. and Adrian Flagg; nephew - Lionel Davis; and sisters Ida Thaggard and Helen Stewart.

Left to cherish her memory and celebrate her life are daughter Sherry Young (Tommy) of Wake Village, Texas, sons Gary L. Houff Sr. (Debra), Harold Houff (Regina), Juan Houff Sr. (Janet), Cecil Houff (Charnell), Marion Houff all of Texarkana, Texas, and Arthur Houff of Richardson, Texas. Also to cherish her memory are grandchild­ren, Candace Massiah, Jason Lowe, Angela Houff, Gary Houff Jr., Josh Houff, Ethan Houff, Courtnee Houff, Portia Flagg, Shaundra Walker, Andreika Houff, Kaylia Houff. She is also survived by special nieces and nephews Sammie Davis, Jr., Marva Davis, Anthony Davis, Lynn Hill, and Diana Miles. WILMA DIXON

Mrs. Wilma Louise Dixon was born February 5, 1939, to the late Elijah (Buster) Watson and Louise M. Watsonragl­on in Hempstead County, AR. She departed this life on January 30, 2023, at Hospice of Texarkana,

Texarkana, Texas.

She was married to Mr. Clyde Dixon Sr. To this union, three children were born. Etta Louise Muldrew preceded her in death.

Wilma was a member of the Greater New Hope Baptist Church where she served as an usher until her health failed her. She retired from Cooper Tire Inc. after years of faithful service. She was very involved in the community by volunteeri­ng at the Sandflat Neighborho­od Center and feeding children after school.

She is survived by: children, Clyde Dixon Jr. (Debra) and Dories Henson and a grandson she raised as her son, Clyde Dixon III (Tia Marie); sister, Dorothy M. Johnson (James); special cousin, Henry Raglon (Earline), grandchild­ren, Lashundra “Peaches” Harrison (Preston), Latonya Bayonne (Gerald), Christian Williams, and Erica Dixon; great-grandchild­ren, Preston Harrison Jr., Jayla Bayonne, Taylor Bayonne, Dominique Harrison, Jayda Harrison, Channing Dixon, Jalen Nelson and Chase Dixon.

Mr. Cedrick D’angello Scott was called to his heavenly home by the Lord on Sunday, January 29, 2023 at a Dallas, Texas hospital.

H e was born January 17, 1986 to Aundria Scott and the late Thomas Scott in Texarkana, Texas.

Cedrick was a Baptist and gave his life to Christ at an early age. He served as a Jr. Deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. Cedrick loved life and always filled the room with much love and laughter. He worked many years in constructi­on with his father. He moved to Lancaster, TX three years ago with his fiancée, Quita Harris. He was actively employed with Vestcom.

Cederick was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Scott and son, Kingystn Scott and Stepfather, Jerome Edwards.

Sherry Lynette Barfield, born August 28, 1969, in Shreveport LA, passed from this life to the next on January 24, 2023, at Baptist Medical Center South in Jacksonvil­le FL. She was 53 years old and a resident of Orange Park FL.

Sherry is preceded in death by father Tilford Joe Barfield; brother Tilford Joe Barfield II; nephew Tilford Joe Barfield III; and niece Punchress Rena Barfield.

She is survived by her adoring mother, Bessie Mae (Ware)

Barfield; brothers George Barfield and Chris Gray; sister Pamela Barfield; nephew Cartavias Barfield; a host of beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews; and special friend Tony D. Avery.

Sherry was a devout Woman of God. She loved his children and served them through their trials in life. She was generous and kind and would do whatever she could to make others’ lives better. She was an example of charity. Sherry grew up in Atlanta TX and attended Atlanta High School. She valiantly served her country as a nurse in the US Navy. She retired as a US Navy Senior Chief and continued her exemplary record of service in other aspects of life. She was a staffer for Congressma­n Al Lawson and Senator Tony Hill of Florida and colleagues with Kourtney Wesley. She joined BOATT, Mayon, and the United Way, and volunteere­d at the Clara White Mission and other charities.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023, at Queen City Funeral Home from 2:00pm-4:00pm.

A funeral service in Sherry’s honor will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the Atlanta High School Auditorium in Atlanta TX beginning at 11:00am.

Interment will follow at the Dallas-fort Worth National Cemetery.

CAROLYN S. HALE

Carolyn S. Hale, age 78, went to be with the Lord, Friday, February 10, 2023 in a local nursing home. She was born May 3, 1944 in Texarkana, Texas to Arney and Maggie Hayes. Carolyn was Baptist by faith and worked over 20 years as a clerk in the Wadley Regional Medical Center Emergency Room. She loved animals and adored her family.

Carolyn is preceded in death by one daughter, Shannon; sisters, Virginia Giles, Evelyn Kacos; brother, Arney Hayes, Jr; and her parents.

She is survived by two daughters, Kristen Otwell and husband Glyn of Redwater, Texas, Sheri Randell and husband Mark of Cedar Grove, Tennessee; four grandchild­ren, Zachary Wincher and wife Emily, Tyler Wincher, Caleb Wincher, Alexia Otwell; two great grandchild­ren, Annistyn Wincher, Stetson Wincher; and a number of other family and friends.

Cremation arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service.
