New Boston sizzling with news of a steakhouse opening in March

NEW BOSTON, Texas — A new restaurant opening in March will bring steaks and all the fixings to downtown New Boston.

Bar M Steakhouse will be the first steakhouse in the seat of Bowie County. Owners Jennifer and Dwayne McDowell want to be known as a friendly, come-as-yourself, family atmosphere.

“We want it to be where any and everybody can come in to have a nice experience and feel comfortable,” Jennifer McDowell said.

Bar M will bring something needed to New Boston, since the closest steakhouses where either in Texarkana or Avinger, Jennifer said.

“It’s been needed for a long time. I am local to this area, and we want to offer something back to the community. Of course, we are going to offer jobs to people and bring in more work,” she said.

Work on the building is continuing. The inside features exposed brick to create an air of comfort. The garage-like door leads to a patio, giving the steakhouse an open-air feel.

“We hope to be as fair as we can and make it affordable for everyone,” Jennifer said.

Steaks are not the only thing on the grill. The menu also consists of gourmet hamburgers, catfish and dessert options. The beef is 28-day aged Angus.

“We will do some special menu items periodically,” McDowell said.

News of Bar M has created a buzz around town. So far, the steakhouse has accumulated over 900 followers on Facebook.

Bar M Steakhouse will be at 101 N. Elm St., next to North Elm Boutique behind the pavilion. For updates, follow Bar M on Facebook, which is where the owners will post business hours and other menu items.
