Kiwanis’ Pancake Breakfast aims to raise $40K

-

The 65th annual Kiwanis Club of Texarkana Pancake Breakfast is Saturday in the Truman Arnold Student Center at Texarkana College.

The breakfast will begin at 7 a.m. and pancakes will be served until 1 p.m.. The $5 admission ticket covers a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, bacon and drinks but also grants entrance into the Kiwanis Kids Zone.

The Kids Zone will be open from 9 a.m. until noon and will feature a Texarkana, Texas, Fire Department truck for children to explore, two bounce houses donated by Jump-A-Roo’s of Texarkana, a HealthCARE Express T-shirt tie-dye station and other activities.

There will also be a bake sale of handmade breads, cakes, pies and other baked goods.

The Pancake Breakfast is the largest fundraiser for the Kiwanis Club. All proceeds are returned to the Texarkana community through grants to nonprofits and community service hubs.

In 2022, $40,000 was raised through corporate sponsorships, ticket sales and donations to Pancake Day, and club members are hoping to equal that mark.

“A large portion of the supplies we use on Pancake Day are donated by area McDonald’s restaurants. Texarkana College is also very generous in allowing us to use their facility and providing us with students from their culinary arts program to help with the cooking. We couldn’t do this without in-kind donors like them and our corporate sponsors, who see the value in what Kiwanis does for our community,” club President James Syler said in a news release.

“Last year we cooked 400 pounds of bacon, 200 pounds of sausage and 4,000 pancakes. We are hoping to top those numbers this year,” Syler said.

Tickets are available in advance from Kiwanis members or on Saturday at the door.

The Kiwanis Club of Texarkana meets at noon every Wednesday in the Hilton Garden Inn Texarkana Convention Center. Prospective members are invited to attend.
