Monjunis returns with something for those with a sweet tooth
TEXARKANA, Ark. — Monjunis Italian Cafe & Grocery has made its way back to Texarkana.
The eatery has been open for about a month, but news has spread fast.
“We are excited to be here. Back in the early 90s, Monjunis was originally already here in the area, and for some reason it closed, and we decided several years later we decided to bring it back. It has been a fantastic opportunity for us, and the community has been great,” regional manager Donnie Spriggs said.
Monjunis serves Italian-style food such as spaghetti and meatballs, twicebaked lasagna and fettucine alfredo. The menu also has shrimp and chicken aurora, which is an alfredo sauce mixed with Monjunis’ sweet sauce and baked; fresh salads; and po’boys.
“Monjunis is very much a hippie, cool, laid-back environment. When you walk into a Monjunis you have fun; it’s not like walking into fine dining. Every day we come to work we have a great time … and we want our guests to have a great day,” Spriggs said.
The restaurant features colorful, low lights and an open, dog-friendly patio. Incoming guests are greeted by a colorful waterfall built from wine glasses embedded in a brick wall.
The Monjunis reboot also houses a Buttercups Cupcakes — a well-known Shreveport brand.
“The person Monjunis purchased the bakery from also won ‘Cupcake Wars,’ a bakery competition show on the Food Network, with red velvet cupcakes,” Spriggs said.
The bakery sells cake pops, cupcakes, macaroons and specialty cakes.
Monjunis offers dine-in, takeout and online ordering.
It is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The restaurant is closed on Sunday.
Monjunis is at 511 E. 51st St., which is the former Copeland’s location.
