Fitness Court ribbon cutting Tuesday at Spring Lake Park
TEXARKANA, Texas — The city’s new Fitness Court will officially open during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday at Spring Lake Park.
The celebration begins at 2 p.m. and will include representatives from the city, the National Fitness Campaign, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas and the American Electric Power Foundation, the city said in a news release.
The Fitness Court was installed Jan. 11 and was immediately available for use. It features seven exercise zones for a circuit workout. Tuesday’s ceremony will include demonstrations of how to use the equipment.
Texarkana is one of 20 outdoor courts in a series of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Fitness Courts that will be constructed in easily accessible public spaces this year.
“Created with people aged 14 and over and with all abilities in mind, the workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users are encouraged to download the free Fitness Court App, which acts as a coach-in-your-pocket and enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience,” the release states.
The City Council approved the court in October 2022. Funding for installation included $50,000 grants from the National Fitness Campaign and AEP and $67,350 from the city’s parks capital improvement fund.
“This Fitness Court is an excellent addition to Spring Lake Park which will provide an additional resource for our residents,” City Manager David Orr said in the release. “We are grateful to see our parks continue to grow and want to thank our partners and staff for all the hard work they’ve done to make this a reality for our community.”
