Roosters Coffee Co. a dream turned into a reality
TEXARKANA, Texas — Roosters Coffee Co. — a sunny, bright yellow, locally owned, drive-thru-only coffee shop — has been open for six months.
Roosters Coffee sells a variety of beverages to fit the taste buds of just about anyone. The drive-thru spot sells espressos, coffees, fruit smoothies, teas and breakfast foods, from house-made burritos, to bagel sandwiches, to a variety of pastries.
Owner Jennifer Wittman, originally from Washington State, was inspired to create her own coffee shop after working as a barista there.
Typically, when you think of a coffee shop you might think of an establishment where you can go inside and sit down. This unique business brings something different to Texarkana.
“Coffee stands are very common in Washington, and I’ve worked at a ton of them. You’re combining convenience and a positive experience to spread good vibes. You still get high-quality coffee with the convenience of not having to get out of your car,” Wittman said.
The 12 by 20 feet coffee shop was once just an idea. Wittman and her husband brainstormed a few names before coming up with the name now on the shop.
“We were sitting on the porch drinking our coffee, and one of our 55 chickens (and 12 roosters) would not stop crowing in our face. Then that’s when we were like wake up with a Roosters. We thought it was fun and catchy,” Wittman said. “My husband and my dad built it for me, so it is definitely a family affair. My dad flew down from Washington several times to come help.”
Wittman credits her past experience as a barista in Washington and the management she worked under in years prior for her success now. It is important to Wittman that she pours back into the community. Wittman is passionate about connecting with not only her customers, but also partnering with other local businesses.
“My backstory on wanting to open this is after my second son was born, I had some pretty bad post-partum depression, and I was a stayat-home mom. Part of my routine was to go get coffee, and the interaction with the girls I used to go to is really what helped keep me afloat. That is what my soul needed,” she said.
“You’re going to come here and get positive engagement and find all the craft coffees. You’ll find knowledge about products, too,” Wittman said.
Wittman realized since COVID-19 how important human interaction is and to spread kindness.
“As quick as it may be, we’re going to be that source of positive engagement,” she said.
(Roosters Coffee Co. is at 5884 U.S. Hwy. 59. Hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.)
