Texas High baseball dismantles host Marshall, 11-2, in district play

MARSHALL, Texas — Texas High picked up its first District 15-5A win after dismantlin­g Marshall, 11-2, on Tuesday night.

Texas High (8-6-1, 1-1) pounded out 10 hits while holding the Mavericks to just four in the win.

Marshall (5-13, 0-3) got out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning before the Tigers began opening the gates in the second inning with three runs.

Texas High drew two walks in the second and Dalton Raley connected on a base hit to drive in Cody Reese. With runners on second and third, Ean Crite juiced the bases after a Marshall error.

Brenden Allred then put Texas High up, 2-1, after being hit by a pitch and Kameron Wrightner scored Raley with a sacrifice fly to right field.

Marshall cut the lead to 3-2 in the third, but the Tigers answered back with five runs in the bottom of the frame.

Reese started the fiverun inning when he drove in Tanner Ross, who led the inning off with a single. After a Crite single, Jacob Yowell would later hit a two-run single, scoring Raley and Crite.

Allred connected on a tworun home run to right field in the fifth inning scoring Raley, who led the inning off with a double. Texas High’s final score came in the sixth when Reese doubled in courtesy runner Daryon Jackson.

Worth McMillen took the win for Tigers. The hurler went seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out 13 and walking one.

Marshall’s Caden Noblit took the loss, lasting 2 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and eight runs while striking out one.

Ross, Reese and Raley each had game-high two hits apiece in the win. Allred had three RBIs, while teammates Yowell and Reese added two.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Whitehouse (16-3, 3-0) for another district bout.
