Hooks baseball coach Tony Hight gets 100th win

HOOKS, Texas — Hooks took advantage of six Redwater errors and other mishaps en route to a 120 victory earlier this week to give Hornets coach Tony Hight his milestone 100th win.

Hooks (14-4, 3-0) scored five runs in the second inning and seven in the fourth in the run-rule shortened game on Tuesday.

Trip Baysinger started the second inning with a blooper over the second baseman and later scored on an error. Rip Birdwell, who singled earlier in the inning, while Eli Thomas scored on a wild pitch and Matthew Hays scored on another error.

Carter Harris capped the inning off to give the Hornets a 5-0 lead on a wild pitch.

In the fourth inning, Hooks’ Logan Baker took advantage of a error for the inning’s first score before Kameron Choate hit a tworun single and Jake Ledford adding an RBI-single to add onto their 9-0 lead.

Birdwell later hit a groundball and reached on a throwing error, scoring Baysinger and Ledford. Birdwell later scored the Hornets’ final run on a Baker sacrifice fly.

Choate got the win on the mound, going five innings where he struck out nine and walked just four while allowing one hit.

Redwater’s Brody Johnson allowed 12 runs on seven hits, while striking out two and walking four through 3 1/3 innings.

Jaxon Minter went 1-for-2 at the plate for the Dragons’ lone hit.

Hooks will be back in action on Tuesday when it hits the road to DeKalb. The varsity’s first pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.

LIBERTY-EYLAU GAME MOVED TO PARIS

TEXARKANA, Texas — Because of inclement weather, Liberty-Eylau’s home game against Paris on Friday has been moved to Paris.

First pitch is slated for 6 p.m., the school district announced Thursday.

With the switch, the Leopards’ away game against Paris on April 7, will now be played at Liberty-Eylau instead.

TEXAS HIGH’S GRAY, BALL OFFERED

TEXARKANA, Texas — Texas High wideout TJ Gray and running back Tradarian Ball received more offers this week.

Boston College offered Gray while Ball received an offer from Purdue.

Both were standout athletes on the Tigers’ football program last season.

ICYMI: PLEASANT GROVE’S HACKLEMAN TOSSES NO-HITTER

TEXARKANA, Texas — Sarah Hackleman threw a no-hitter while her teammates pounded out 27 hits as Pleasant Grove ran its win streak to four with a 23-0 win over Liberty-Eylau Tuesday night.

Moving to 2-0 in District 15 4A play, the Lady Hawks got multi-hit nights from M.J. Williams, Adi Koller, Abby, Runion, Presley Humphrey, Hailey Allen, Jacklynn Smith, Addy Dial and Hackleman, who helped her own cause by going three-for-five with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

Humphrey went four-for-four with six RBIs, including a three-run-shot over the fence in the top of the third.

Pitching in intermitte­nt showers, Hackleman filled the strike zone. The sophomore struck out five while allowing one walk.

“We squared up a lot of balls and had the opportunit­y to work on defense and pitch in the wind,” said coach Becca Collom. “We also got the opportunit­y to get everyone in tonight and that is always great to be able to do.”

Pleasant Grover hosts Pittsburg Friday.

GENOA RALLIES PAST CAMDEN FAIRVIEW

GENOA, Ark. — Down 2-1 going into the sixth inning, Genoa Central put three runs on the board to complete its 4-2 rally against Camden Fairview on Thursday.

The Dragons got on the board first in bottom of the third when Cole Gammon scored on a fielder’s choice hit by Braxton Robertson.

Camden Fairview, however, answered back with two runs in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead before the Dragons rallied.

With the bases juiced in the sixth, Gammon drew a walk to score Camron Bush and Connor Reed later drove in Joshua Kirkland and Riley Mudford with a single to right field to take the lead.

Reed went 3-for-4 at the plate with three hits and two RBIs to lead the Dragons.
